Sorry, but the Asian-Americans are the only group that is upwardly mobile through their merit and hard work. Their hands hold neither the whip nor the begging bowl. They are also away from the batshit drama of the White, Black and Hispanic crowd. Being one of the first groups that was exploited in the railroad industry and then interned in WW2, they are used to other races being jealous of their progress and coveting and looting the wealth that they create.

A) The word "Asian" is doing a lot of work in this paragraph, and your argument would be stronger if you took the time to break out the different ways in which various "Asian" groups have been both persecuted/abused AND allowed to advance in a way that Black/Latinx folks were not.

B) There is a lot to unpack here, but I want to drill down on the "batshit drama of the ....Black crowd" here because others reading this post might not be aware of the role that the broader Civil Rights movement played in securing the vote, and linguistic access to the ballot, for Asian Americans. Quick - name one Asian American civil rights leader who worked in solidarity with Black Americans to pass the VRA. That's right - Asian Americans were largely missing from the struggle, but still reaped the benefits.

C) Ditto the farm workers rights movement. Asian immigrants benefited, but the organizing, the struggle, the beatings, and the repression broadly fell on the Latinx organizers.

So step back with your stereotypes about how Asians got ahead by hard work.

That one phrase "Asian-American" is doing an awful lot of work there, covering EVERYBODY from Chinese immigrants on the railroad in the 1850s to Japanese-Amerians during World War II to all of the different groups from South and East Asia who have come to America in various ways (legal immigration, unauthorized immigration, refugee status) in the 50-odd years since the passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

I will note, also, that the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 is a direct result of the civil rights movement.

How many of those who are applying to college right now worked hard for civil rights?

Do you know why there were hardly any Asian Americans fighting for civil rights? Because the number of Asian Americans were minuscule in comparison to African Americans because of the quota placed on Asians for immigration. It wasn't until about the 1980s when more Asians started immigrating to the US. You are saying that you expect a tiny minority to play a large part in the politics of civil rights?

Also, there weren't many Asian Americans in the south; they were mostly concentrated out west, and out west, like in CA, they fought for their civil rights.

Monolithic ethnic groups never go anywhere good.

This is a lesson that I think many families in actual Asia already know
If you're claiming to be Asian American and do not, then many you need to do some research in between test prep.

I also do not understand what the PP's point or rant is even about on that angle. Is she saying that its fine for white people to discriminate against asians because in her limited understanding of history asians have not fought back enough? Its OK to discriminate as long as the minority group is perceived to be weak? They have to earn their own rights to be treated equal under the law? It would be nice if the US could just stop with the obligatory hazing and bigotry of whatever new ethnic or racial groups lands on our shores. There's a pattern here that is not difficult to recognize.

The other aspect of this situation that boggles my mind is how white people scream that asians are stealing their spots simply because they asians study too much and prep which is not fair to whites who want more leisure time. Try considering what you would do if you knew that your child had to score 20 points or 100 points higher because of their skin color? You would either give up or work harder. I think many whites are just angry that the asian response to whites trying to contain their success is to work harder. Asians were supposed to give up and take a back seat to the whites. They haven't and this makes the whites unhappy.

NP. The PP was responding specifically to a poster who claimed Asians hadn't been pulled into into "Black and Latino nonsense" or something like that. It's reasonable to push back on that and point out that Black and Latino people were targeted for their activism, and that Asian folks basically sat out the movements that guaranteed large parts of the community the franchise, and a living wage as agricultural workers.

Well, what they did seems like it worked fairly well since this group has the highest income and are the most educated. Congratulations on not achieving much.

Asian Americans are stubborn, though. They won't let anything keep them down.
