Well, remember, the XXLs don't fit the 8 year old. So you have to put in a weight of over 115. Information Entered Age (at measurement): 8 years Sex: girl Height: 66 inches Weight: 116 pounds Results Based on the height and weight entered, the BMI is 18.7, placing the BMI-for-age at the 88th percentile for girls aged 8 years. This child is overweight. |
Nope. An 8 yo that cannot fit in children’s clothes isn’t normal, no matter what you say! |
Already out of high school. It will be hard to find "trendy" kid stuff in the women's or juniors department, but it's that or sewing it yourself. |
I have an 11 year old that cannot wear GAP kids XXL clothes because they are too small and XS, size 2 women's clothes are too big for her. GAP clothes run small. Old Navy run big. She is 5 ft tall and under 100 pounds. She is not a skinny kid, but she is not fat.
What makes me crazy about this thread is comparing it to the thread over in diet and exercise forum excoriating WW for creating an app to help kids as young at 8 learn how to eat healthy using an app and rules. Parents cannot win. If their child is overwieght (and I am not opining on OP's child) they are at fault and should do something but that something better not be teaching your child how to eat healthy as that will give them lifelong weight problems. |
Riiiiight. |
I think PP might like this solution. |
Yes, but a 12-14 is still able to fit in an XXL. A size 12 is an XL. Sizes 14-18 are equivalent to an XXL according to GAP. I can easily fit in a GAP XXL and I am a 5'6" 120 lb woman. The fact the OP mentioned (out of nowhere) that the girl is not overweight makes me lean towards this being a troll. |
What? Are you trying hand me downs that have shrunk a lot for the kids clothes? That I'd believe. But I am 5'6" / 120 and can fit into GAP kids XXLs... but not women's size 2 (at least not comfortably; I can physically get into a 2 typically). |
The clothing sizes for kids, juniors and adults are not standard from store to store, line to line. Even at one store you can different brands with very different cuts.
OP you need to try different stores, ordering online, trying juniors clothes, etc. I had the hardest time when ds (who is big and tall - always over 99% percentile) was a tween and too big for the regular sizes and way too thin for husky sizes. His body shape just did not fit the way that clothes were cut. He is now 14 and I buy men's large for him. He is very thin and a bit taller than I am. He can fit his men's medium t-shirts still, but I just go ahead and buy large because they fit fine and he is growing so fast. He will most likely be taller than dh who used to be 6'1 The in between sizes (between kids and adults) are really, really hard, and it is hard to find things that fit correctly because their bodies are too big for kid stuff but adult stuff is cut wrong for them. When I found something that worked, I bought multiples and built the wardrobe around those. Good luck. |
My 6 foot 4 inch 175 pound 18 year old son accidentally put on his younger brother's gym type shorts the other day because they have shorts that look so similar. Yes, by the end of the day, before figuring it out, he was complaining that they were a little snug, but they fit him! They were a size child XXL. There can't be that much difference in brands that an 8 year old wouldn't be able to fit into these shorts. I don't understand how it can be. Maybe the shorts were washed and shrunk a lot or something?

This thread is so sad and such a sad reflection on society. I had an eating disorder for 15 years because of the mentality all over this post.
This mom asked for suggestions on clothes. But most of the comments are about being "normal" or fat or whatever. I seriously hope none of you talk like that around your kids. The obsession with weight and image on this forum is sickening. |
Sorry this is absolutely BS. I have a 15yo who is 6'3" as well as a 10yo sono who wears size kids L or XL. There is ZERO chance of mistaking a kids' XXL for clothes that a tall adult man could wear and there is ZERO chance that a 6'4" man walked around all day in kids' clothing. You're literally making something up to shame a stranger on the internet. |
Just FYI, 60 inches is 99.9 percentile. |
I will never understand why women are so mean to each other and to children. I wish people would wake up and see how absolutely damaging their mindsets are.

Yeah, Gap runs big, and the first post makes no sense. I have an 11yo who is also 5 feet tall. She weighs ~90 pounds and still wears a size L in Gap Kids. An XL would drown her, as would an XXL. Even if she gained 10 pounds. She is an XXS/XS or a 00 in women’s sizes. There is no way a Gap Kids XXL is too small and a 2 is too big. |
