This weeks episode was sooo good!

I was pleasantly surprised that Nate or his dad did not physically hurt Jules more than they did...I was really afraid one of them was going to beat her up or something. Nate actually said some kind things (in a totally fuct up way, of course) but that was...interesting. this show is really great; frightening as a parent, but familiar as someone who did some of the same things when I was growing up.

Can anyone explain why Jules was so upset at the skate rink when the friend said Jules was doing well because of her?

B/c Jules knows Rue has feelings for her but she doesn't reciprocate them. Jules doesn't want to lose Rue as a friend and feels so much weight on her shoulders for her sobriety.

The kids are athletes and good students. I know way more than I wish I did. And yes, a lot of parents are totally clueless or purposely looking the other way.

Can I ask an honest question, without judgement I promise? My kids are.too young still. I'm only mid 30s so my teen years were long ago but 20 years, not 30-40+. I just wasn't "allowed" to get mixed up in this kind of scene. I probably may have veered that way. I'm social and like to go out, etc. But I just wasn't allowed to go out and be back by curfew. I had to actually tell my parents who I was going with, how I was getting there (no public transportation really so that made a difference) and what exactly I was doing. so I was always at a movie, at my friend's house, getting pizza and ice cream etc. Bc their parents were basically the same. It didn't seem overly strict but maybe it was. I couldn't just say "I'm going out with Mary and Karla, I'll be home later" until after graduation. Lying would have had to be on a big scale since they knew the parents of my friends.

Sorry I missed the question.... basically how do kids get into this so easily? Parents just give curfew and that's all starting in 8th or 9th grade?

Right? I recall the first episode the main character's mom allows her to go hang out with friends on her first or second day home from rehab...in what universe does that happen? My parents would have had me on lockdown.

There isn't much of any normal, healthy parenting depicted on this show. Rue's mom tries but she's a single parent so her ability to be present is probably limited. Wouldn't you attend NA with your 16 year old daughter?? The whole exchange with the guy checking her in shows Rue learned how to protect herself from a young age. Jules's dad seems great but he's in serious denial. Trans teens are at very high risk of violence and mental illness and he's not protecting her at all.

The part from this last episode where Nate called the police and then the next scene they're at Fez's house presumably with a search warrant...that's just not how it works. A judge isn't going to sign off on a warrant for a phone call....it will be interesting to see how that one plays out. I hope the next episode highlights Fez b/c he is the best character on the show.

Thoughts on the finale? I’m left scratching my head... can someone break it down?

Well Rue relapsed and I’m so sad for her. Basically everyone went back to their vices.

I love Fez! It's the actors first screen role, too.

Such a confusing episode. I was not surprised that Rue relapsed, but it did surprise me that it was a result of her own choice not to go with Jules. The Vulture recap theorizes that maybe the final sequence was a flashback to her first OD. To me it seemed like she was dying and her life was flashing before her eyes. Plus, she saw her dad and he was the only one who could see her.

Still, Rue's storyline was so much better than anyone else's. Nate was terrible. Fez was really boring and disappointing, as was Cassie's abortion, and... Jules.

I will watch season 2!

yeah I was confused by the finale too so I also googled. I did not see the "is Rue dead" finale, and apparently it's a theory about the entire season.
