It's both, in my experience. A whole lot of Whitman kids I know are well aware they live in a privileged bubble, surrounded mostly by people just like them. They want to get out and have some new and different life experiences, and they can do this because their parents can fund it. My kid chose a school in Texas for this reason, and it is indeed a completely different environment. |
This is impressive. Is Whitman the school that did away with a lunch period requirement? Or was that Churchill? Whichever school it is is promoting an unhealthy culture and raising pressure on every student. |
Oops didn't mean to post twice. |
Too bad they have a persistent problem with racism |
What! You don't have high schools on your planet in the galaxy you are from? |
My kids are not at Whitman but I send congrats to all these kids and wish them well as they start the next exciting stage of their young lives.
(FYI it is so much easier to be happy for other people than find reasons to hate). |
That's an amazing list in this day in age.
5 to Duke? 3 to Vanderbilt? I know top kids at the Big3 who really wanted to attend those schools but weren't admitted. |
Of course! When I first opened this thread (too early in the morning), I had Wilson (DCPS) in my head. It makes a lot of sense that Whitman (MCPS) would send so many to UMD, and that not many would apply to UVA. Congrats, and good luck to the kids going to so many great schools! |
Congrats, Whitman! That's a very good list and proves that even with all the posters bemoaning the state of MCPS education, kids are still able to get into good colleges.
Does anyone have the list for RM? |
Congratulations to Whitman students! Well done. Very impressive. |
Pretty similar to any public HS in a high SES area. |
Prove it. |
Yeah, it’s really not. Although there are places in New Jersey that have these numbers for example |
No, it's not at all. Find me another school with these stats in 2019. They're also better than all the area Catholics and just as good as stats from the Big3 privates. |
Wow, so impressed with this list. IMO coming from an up-county and more diverse school this list is jaw dropping. Congrats to the Whitman Class of 2019! Well Done |
