Are you kidding me??? 5% of the class got into Ivy League and Duke, Vanderbilt, Standford, Georgetown, Rice, etc., etc. Incredible! There must have been lots of celebrations in Bethesda early Spring.

I'm surprised so few got in to MIT. What gives?

Looks like there were a lot of legacy applicants at Whitman --good for them!

Right because from what I have read here, no college of value accepts anyone from MCPS..

probably more like the repeated assertion here that no one from any school (MCPS, FCPS or private) gets into a good college without a 'hook'.

Whitman rarely has more than one kid get into MIT per year, if that. In 2016 or 2017 3 attended, but it's really tough to get in if you are not in one of the magnets. I'm extremely impressed that a kid got into Cal Tech this year.

Prove it.

Yeah, it’s really not. Although there are places in New Jersey that have these numbers for example

I used to live in NJ and I totally know what specific schools you are referring to. And they aren't that many. You proved the results to be exceptional and nut "any public HS in a high SES area."

No, it's not at all. Find me another school with these stats in 2019.

They're also better than all the area Catholics and just as good as stats from the Big3 privates.

Why wouldn't other kids in this area do as well as Whitman kids?

I suspect there are no more than 20 traditional public high schools nationwide with comparable destination lists.

Very impressive list.

If by "do as well" you mean, "attend brand-name elite schools," then the answer is because their parents cannot pay for it.

Half of the Blair magnet goes to UMD-CP every year, and it's not because they couldn't get into top 20 schools. It's because they can't (or don't want to) pay for them.

So to respond to "find me another school with those stats," you assume that money is no object.

+100 What are the lists for other MCPS schools?

You suspect wrong. There are thousands upon thousands of high schools. Yes it’s a strong showing, but don’t get carried away.

Well done, kids, but if anyone thinks this list isn’t circulating because a Whitman parent is pushing back against the racism charges, they’re delusional.

Nah. These lists get circulated for all the "top" area schools as soon as/if they become available. I and many others would love to see the ones for the other MoCo schools to compare without having to wait for the fall for the Bethesda magazine issue that has acceptance data for multiple schools.
