No it is not. PP, just change the field from public to private. |
Just a correction. New Trier's class size is typically around 1000. So the class size is a little over double Whitman's. |
Please go find 20 traditional (non-magnet, non-charter) public high schools with similar outcomes. I don't care about the juked rankings or whatever social justice US News publishes now. I mean raw college outcomes. I don't think there are 20 in the nation like this. |
Clearly said TRADITIONAL public, not magnet or charter. That list is full of selective magnets and charters. |
Amazing posts. Thank you to the googler. Very illuminating. My experience as well is that elite college kids are 98% of the time URMs, athletes or legacies. Period. |
Are some of these kids preselected to go into rowing and this is a pipeline to the ivies? Or is it a known thing that rowers have a good probability of going to Ivies? |
And my experience is that those numbers are closer to 55%. Period. |
The DC area has the best male rowing teams in the country. Four of the 6 best teams in the nation are from the DMV (B-CC, Gonzaga, Wilson and Whitman-- due to the facts that people are abnormally tall here, the Potomac, and the weather lets them row a lot of months). In each of these schools, maybe 5 will be able to use it to get into a school - and not necessarily an ivy. |
I was going to say you were full of s**t but then I saw the “Period” and that turned me right around. You’re brilliant. |
Wut? |
https://newtriernews.org/destinations-2019/ 2 to Harvard, 3 to Yale, 8 to Princeton, 1 to MIT, 1 to Stanford, 7 to Dartmouth, 1 to Columbia, 3 to Penn, 1 to Brown, 2 to JHU, 12 to Northwestern, 6 to UChicago, 8 to Vandy, 5 to Cornell, 3 to ND, 3 to UCLA, 4 to WashU, 14 to UMich, 2 to Tufts. |
Those schools are impressive -- I wonder where the other 950 kids in that graduating class are going to... |
NIU UI SIU WIU UI-Chicago Probably a bunch to UW, UW-Milwaukee, Beloit College etc. |
I wouldn’t assume that those athletes aren’t academically qualified. Some of the brightest students in my cathedral school class were on athletic teams. |
Makes perfect sense. Self section of mediocre intellects. |
