If he has been washing Russian money, as has been suggested, that would be illegal activity, no? |
Like flies to sh1t. |
There is a reason for the timing of the request. Stay tuned and don't be mad. |
Trump appointed as IRS commissioner a tax attorney who wrote an opinion piece arguing that Trump should not release his returns.

And the GOP senate fast tracked his nomination without asking about it. |
|
Trump is not going to win this. The law is very clear and the intent of the law is parallel to what’s going on now. Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon has refused to divest from his businesses while serving in government and Congress wanted to be able to see how the laws were affecting him. Sound familiar? |
I think you mean Mnuchin refused to divest. Or maybe you're referring to Wilber Ross, who said he did but he really didn't. Or Betsy DeVos who has so much money she can't possibly divest it all.
There is no legal reason not to release Trump's tax returns to a Congressional committee. There may be cause to keep them classified, but... good luck with that once Congress has them. ![]() |

the law is pretty cut and dried. there is really no standing to deny it, though I do not know the recourse for an IRS commissioner who refuses the request. does the house send the SAA after them and put them in a Congressional brig? |
^^^That should have been “Andrew Mellon HAD refused, not has, since I was talking about that origins (oranges?) of a law that’s 95 years old. Apologies. |
Why do we have to go through a long legal process to enforce a requirement that is clearly spelled out in the law? If the IRS Commissioner is breaking the law by refusing to provide Trump’s returns, then why can’t he be arrested? |
Then change the law. NOW. |
Trump's lawyers say the Ways and Means committee only wants his tax returns for the purpose of damaging him politically. What could be so damaging about his taxes? Gillibrand and Klobuchar released their tax returns, and they haven't been damaged. Why is Trump different? |
Perhaps your level of rabid hate for Trump is what's different. You Libs simply want to nail him... no matter what. Why not find a candidate who can actually win the WH fair and square? |
This is fair and square. Why not elect someone who has nothing to hide in his taxes? |
