Exactly - as with all other policies and norms that have been diligently followed by law abiding presidents before him - this now has to be codified because a criminal president found a way to exploit the policy. This isn't a political move - this one should be easy for folks to understand. The rationale behind the IRS policy is to ensure that there is not any way a foreign entity could influence/blackmail or otherwise dictate policy of the United States.

I think an internal investigation is needed into this failure by the IRS. It seems to me this IRS failure also impeded many other investigations into Trump's finances and dealings, such as the Cy Vance / Tish James and other NY investigations. It also makes me wonder why none of the officials in other states where Trump owns properties / has business dealings also seem to have dropped the ball?

For the same reason that the law says the House Ways & Means Committee can request any individual set of tax returns, and the IRS SHALL furnish them, but it has taken three years to get them.

And how in all of the three years of game playing, IRS *still* didn't release his taxes to the Ways & Means Committee even after the courts ruled that they should?

Seems very questionable to me. I think Congress needs to exercise more of its oversight responsibility over the IRS. And I think Biden's IRS head should be reaching out to the IRS OIG about this failing as well to conduct an internal investigation.

Hello MAGAs trying to play gotcha - honest people release their tax returns in accordance with policy. Dishonest people do not and obfuscate for years. Both Biden's and Harris's are easily available online...and they paid an appropriate tax rate for their income like the rest of us.

MAGA folks are you not at all bothered by the fact that you paid thousands in taxes for 2020 and POTUS paid none? I don't understand how you can defend this guy when you had to pay a substantial amount in taxes and he did not.
