While my gut agrees with you on the nickname as first name, my DH had a formal first name and commonly used nickname (very similar to molly/mary). It was such a PITA he had his name legally changed to the nickname in college. |
I really like Molly, and I think it's completely fine as a stand alone name. I would consider family names for middle names - that's what we did with each of our three kids. She very rarely will use her full name, and I love being able to tell my kids about their namesakes.
If you don't want to do that, however, here are some names that I think flow well with Molly: Claire Ellen Elise Alexandra Evelyn Amelia Grace Joan |
Other middle name suggestions: Joanne Erin Emma Katherine Kathleen Louisa |
I don't have a middle name, but I think a middle name beginning with J sounds best. Someone mentioned Jade. I like it! |
Molly Elizabeth
Molly Eileen Molly Kathleen I love Molly. ![]() |
Josephine? |
Holly!!! |
This. |
Mackenzie. Call her Molly Mac. |
If she doesn't like Molly as an adult, she can use her middle name or change her name or tell people her name is Margaret. But I know several adult Mollys and they are taken seriously. I think Mary is an ugly name but I don't go on threads where OP has chosen it and criticize. |
What year is it? |
Personally I like middle names with meaning, so I'd think about your family's history. With Molly, I wouldn't choose anything with an L in it.
Good luck! |
+1 I love Molly and would consider Margaret but really dislike Mary. Sounds like a plain old lady. |
Molly was my #1 pick and dh wasn't on board. His arguments were it sounds like a dog name (which whatever, our dog is Max which is also a great little boy name) and that it's the name of the drug. He had a harder time getting past the name of the drug. I still regret it and wish we would have named my little one Molly and call her it secretly sometimes ![]() |
Bring back “Martha” it I like Margaret (Maggie)
Molly is a current drug name and a cute dog name (just saying) |
