I love Emmett! DH vetoed it, so we went with one that sounds very similar (and has been mentioned on this page already).

I don't know any little Emmetts around here.

I love the name Emmett - we considered it for our son for a while but ultimately chose something else (thank goodness - didn't realize it was a "Twilight" character at the time).

I have never actually met anyone named Emmett but around the time we were considering it I posted on DCUM and there were some posters who swore up and down it was becoming *very* popular and they knew several children with the name.

I only know of one Sebastian - I think it's a cute name though.

We know lots of Christophers, Jacks, Johns, Owens, Ryans, Tylers, Gavins, Wills and Williams, Benjamins, Aidens, etc.

I only know one Joseph, one Charlie, and no Coopers.

Boy names are hard - if it's a "good" name it's going to be popular. I think not too many people want to stick their boys with "weird" names so the same ones come up over and over and also some have been popular for decades/centuries.

We ultimately chose a traditional name that we felt was a bit less common and since then have met and heard anecdotally that there are many more young children with this name than we expected. In any event, we are pleased with our choice.

We chose a pretty unusual name, but I will say that I grew up with a very common name (as in 3 kids in my class with the same name) and it never bothered me at all.

I know two Emmetts: one is eight and one is three.

We also want a boy's name that is traditional, not weird, but also not super-super common (we both have less common names and want to go that route). I love Benjamin, but it seems really common right now. Same with Luke. We're considering Peter, but there are a lot of (adult) Peters around us.

And, FWIW, I had a French friend named Sebastian. Everyone called him Seb. I think it's a great nickname and a fabulous name if you want something a little unusual--but that translates very well across cultures.

Sea Bass is a great nickname for Sebastian.

Our son's name is Paul and we have (literally) never met another little boy named Paul. We know a lot of adult Pauls, but it's a classic name which seems to have gone out of fashion in our kids' generation.
