Watch, there will be a run on the name Sebastian.

That's funny, I really like Sebastian and have considered using it for any future boy babies. Right now I have two sons whose names are really, really unusual and I thought Sebastian would maintain that trend.

There is a Sebastian at our daycare, he's about 2. He's the only Sebastian I know.

DS is named Benjamin and I've only met 1 other Ben and he's a year younger. It's becoming popular.

Me too! I was surprised nobody mentioned it earlier, it seems one of the most common to me. Another name I've (surprisingly) heard a lot is Cooper.

Lots of Coopers. Lots of Bens, although not all Bens are Benjamins.

What would Ben be if not Benjamin? Just "Ben"?

FWIW, I have 2 boys with names in the top 20 MD list and so far, they have been the only kid in their class with the name. One suggestion for a way to distinguish your kid is to provide him with a nice middle name that compliments the first name so you'd have the option of calling him by both his first and middle name (ie: John Thomas or JT). While I'm not a traditionalist, I was cautious when selecting baby names. I thought about what my kid's name would look like on a resume for a potential employer. Sebastian is rather common in certain cultures, but I think it might be a burden for a kid who isn't from an ethnic group where the name is common. And it's tough to come up with a cool nickname for it.

I love Emmett! DH vetoed it, so we went with one that sounds very similar (and has been mentioned on this page already).

I don't know any little Emmetts around here.
