Oh gosh. That’s the best Christmas gift!
Sincerely,

That name is truly awful and makes no sense.

The couple was amazing! They happened to have a name that just doesn't work well for a SCHOOL. And it really doesn't work in combination with Washington, or any other name really. Man, maybe they should've let Bernie Bern be on the committee.

No one said anything about whether they were or were not amazing. It makes no sense to name the school after them. No connection to Arlington.

This is all outrageous. We don’t want it named after Robert E Lee. But we are still okay with slave owners, so Washington stays. And we want to save some money because this whole thing is a waste of money, so we a “L” name to go with Washington. Totally ridiculous. How about Washington and the Losers, after the entire South that lost the civil war. Good way to remind people.

That would make it Stafford High, not Quincy High, but Stafford was probably some white guy, so we can’t have that.

Those people are insufferable. My jaw dropped listening to them ask "what right do you have to treat Lee like this?"

I thought the number one criteria on the list of criteria that the SB approved this past summer for naming/renaming schools was geography.

Ok, so the rest of us normal people whose children attended/attend/will attend and understand why the school should be renamed and all of its graduates and future graduates who feel the same have to live with such an absurd name just so you’ve got some satisfaction out of humiliating some “crazy old people” who spoke at at SB netting’s???? Please grow up.

This is a good idea.

Change the name! Do it now! But don't make it "Loving." If it has to stay W-L, pick one of the other L suggestions. Washington stays, but make it Booker T. Washington instead of George and then find an L that won't make bad jokes so easy for the other HS to make. Not need to troll the committee with ridiculous suggestions.

Just call it Washington high school. This is being overthought and overwrought.

+1 Finding some other L name makes no sense. You'll still have the expense of new letterhead, new signs, new uniforms...Either name it Washington High School, or get rid of the current name and pick a generic name that isn't a person's name. "Loving" has nothing to do with Arlington, so (despite the significance of the court decision) makes no sense.

Ugh. That's a horrible name. Just make it Washington HS and move on.

They should name it Nat Turner High School

Not politically correct enough; two white men.

Come on. LINCOLN isn’t PC enough???

No connection to Virginia. The Loving case happened here. I still think this is atupid, but at least I appreciate them for attempting to save money to not have to redo all the W-L signs, insignia, etc.

Didn’t Lincoln end the war in Virginia?

For those of us who aren't quite as eddicated as the rest of y'all, could someone please explain who the Lovings are and why they are in contention?

Thanks so much for your help. I'm sure Google is up to date on the rationale the committee is providing for its recommendation.
