Did anyone listen to or look out their window today? Why is your son in shorts and a sweatshirt?

It was snowing, sleeting and raining. Why would you let your kid out the house like that to have to walk to school or ride their bike? Just didn't make much sense to me. I made sure my kid had on a winter coat, gloves and boots and even if I wasn't at home she would have had sense enough to dress for the weather. Who wants to be cold and wet part of the day.

FYI, you all, This is middle school, not high school we're talking about.

For you people who allow the kids to dress as they like, they never get sick, right? How about the "I'm so hot, Mom!" kid who frequently has the snotty nose and hacking cough?

Some of you should grow a spine.

That’s what middle school boys do. No one accused them of having common sense.

You do know that being cold doesn’t make you ill, right?

I'm definitely a parent and not my child's "friend" but I can assure you that he runs hot because even inside our house when I am wearing a hoodie and sweatpants and socks, he's in a t-shirt and shorts. He's a pretty intelligent, straight A student, and I am fairly confident that he knows how to dress himself at age 12. He actually did wear sweatpants to school today, but it surprised me because he usually wears shorts. Who am I to tell someone else whether they are cold or hot? I'd be pissed if someone told me that I should put more clothes on if I wasn't cold. I actually saw a dad in shorts last weekend at a football game when I was in a full length puffer coat, had a blanket around me and was wearing windproof clothing (and a hat and gloves). Furthermore, I would like for the doctor above to explain to me how people get sick from having cold knees and calves. I must have missed that day in med school.

If I see my toddler shivering, doctor, should I ignore it if he doesn't want his coat on?

how about the fact the the heaters in these schools are usually on or off. and when they are on. they are sauna on. kids knows this and knows that if he dresses warm for the outside weather he'll be uncomfortable all day long.

I teach at a university. Almost every boy (really young men at this point) comes to class almost every day of the winter in basketball shorts and a hoodie. I don’t get it, but it’s a thing they do and it doesn’t stop in MS.

My own kids have been known to wear shorts and a light jacket on sub zero days. Drives me nuts.

Although, I dunno. They appear to be suffering from hot flashes ...

Hi preschool mom!

Middle school boys do not get sick as often as your 4 year old does. They have generally mastered washing hands, not picking their noses, keeping their hands out of their mouths and sneezing properly.

The also run hot.

When your toddler or kindergartner is older, you will see this.

And teen boys do not walk around with snotty noses or hacking coughs.

They aren't 4 year olds.

They can blow their noses and take mucinex.

I have upper elementary through high school boys, and always have a house full of them.

It has been YEARS since I have seen any of them walking around with a snotty nose.

That stops around kindergarten or 1st grade PP.
