Did anyone listen to or look out their window today? Why is your son in shorts and a sweatshirt?

My son always said, "I'm not an idiot; if I'm cold I will put on a jacket." So who am I to decide if he is cold?

She has a young daughter.

OP, come back and talk to us when you have a middle school girl trying to look like a high schooler, or a 15 year old girl who keeps posting bra/bikini shots on her secret snapchat account.

If they are in middle school they should be making their own decisions on what to wear (unless it's against school regs) and if they freeze their butts off they will learn. I will make suggestions such as "you might want to wear a coat" but if my son rejects it and freezes he won't do it again.

LOL. Preach.

You “may” be being “a little” judgmental???

A lot of kids (& some adults) just run warm & don’t get that cold no matter what they wear. And, no, you don’t catch a cold (or pneumonia) from not dressing warmly enough.

Have you smelled a middle school 5th through 8th grade classroom OP?

There is something about those stinky boy hormones that also makes them hot.

OP - have you not been paying attention to middle school boys? They all do this. Parents just stop telling them what to wear after a certain point.

It was snowing, sleeting and raining. Why would you let your kid out the house like that to have to walk to school or ride their bike? Just didn't make much sense to me. I made sure my kid had on a winter coat, gloves and boots and even if I wasn't at home she would have had sense enough to dress for the weather. Who wants to be cold and wet part of the day.

Thank goodness there are some responsible parents like you.
Kids poorly dressed for the winter cold are neglected.

My kid is outside in cold weather all the time in shorts. If he is comfortable and it is not dangerously cold, why do you care? Most schools are over-heated. I would wear shorts if I had to spend all day in those buildings.

So while you may be wearing a parka at 60 degrees, I'm bounding outside in a t-shirt, happy and comfortable as a clam. Same with my kids.

I feel good in the cold too, especially if I'm walking

I see those kids, I shake my head at the kid, and think, "Idiot," because it's cold and snowing and he's in shorts. It never once would occur to me to tell my 12 yo to dress warmer, or colder. My fashion input is limited to making sure they're dressed appropriately for church, or dinner, or a wedding. My kid has been old enough to open the door, stick his head out, and see what the weather is like for quite some time.

OP, I foresee you calling your kid's college counselor, or first boss, and complaining about the unfair treatment she's suffering.

Remember a few winters ago they were going to close schools for the cold.

My friend texted me a picture of my middle school son outside playing basketball with a short sleeve shirt.

Who cares!

He is a full on teen now Snuggled under a blanket with a portable heater on him while he played Black Ops.

I'm clearly a terrible mother. Cheers!

My DS refused to wear a winter coat until he went to college in a cold place. Even then he resisted it. Also hated pants until high school. Whatever, he survived and even thrived.

Not everyone gets as cold as others or likes coats. I often don't wear a heavy coat or coat in the winter.
