Did anyone listen to or look out their window today? Why is your son in shorts and a sweatshirt?

My own kids have been known to wear shorts and a light jacket on sub zero days. Drives me nuts.

Although, I dunno. They appear to be suffering from hot flashes ...

It's called a high metabolism. Their bodies stay warm. If they bundled themselves up as you would like to see them bundled up they would feel sweaty, hot and uncomfortable.

A tween/teen boy is old enough to dress himself and he is old enough to figure out if he needs to wear pants or feels fine in shorts. It is strange that you don't appear to trust your own son to figure this stuff out for himself. I am going to guess that your own children are under the age of 10.

This is bull. They ARE cold. They're just being defiant and challenging (parental) boundaries.

Hahaha!

You don't know many teens and certainly do not have boys over the age of 4.

No teen wearing shorts and a hoodie in cold weather is "challenging" their parents or showing "defiance" by dressing this way. You are hilarious.

You can't be defiant or challenge something your parents see as a non issue. If you knew even a tiny bit about teens, you would know that there is not a single parent who sees this as even a little bit of a concern. It has nothing to do with rebellion.

Your saying this is like saying that a 7 year old jumping off a moving swing is "defiant" or "challenging" authority, just because that is what your 3 year old would do. (But the parent of the 7 year old could not care less about that behavior)

Your lens is a little cloudy due to too much time at preschool if you think a hoodie and shorts is a sign of defiance.

Who do you think they’re defying when parents (like most in this thread) are letting them dress themselves and suffer the consequences if they’re uncomfortable?

Lol. No. They do this even when they are in college and there are no parents around to even notice. They don't get cold like their middle aged mothers do.

^Seriously, if you doubt that they don't get cold walk up to one and ask to touch their arm. It'll be warm and, no, they are not running a fever.

I didn't read all of the comments- but don't any of you have husbands that do the same thing? My husband is in his 40s and walks around in shorts all of the time. I don't get it, but hey, it's his body.

Yes, my husband is mid 50's and walks around in shorts and short sleeves year round. He also has always had a high metabolism.

I think it is a hormonal thing due to more testosterone.

I’m a 50 year old female and never wear a coat and run HOT. All winter long. My body and I get tondecide. Same for my kids.

Why?

It’s winter & I’m wearing flats with no socks.

I hate socks. They make me feel hot. I wear them only when absolutely necessary for comfort (boots, running).

Sure, it was 35F when I left the house this morning, but it was 70 in my office and 65 when I left work. I was perfectly comfortable in a short-sleeved sweater, pants & flats.

The schools are overheated, and they don't really use their lockers. Their outfits make sense enough.

People really think it has to do with teen boy body temperature? Lol. No.

It’s because of comfort, boys hate pants (prefer joggers if they have to)...trend, all the “cool” edgy boys do it...and pushing boundaries.

The no coat thing has been happening for at least 30 years. Just same combo of dumb teen cool tough guy laziness pushing boundaries.

Or perhaps they are just warm...

^exactly. The whole conspiracy theory that it has nothing to do with body temp and is all about looking "cool" doesn't really explain the fact that at my house, when it's just the two of us, I"m in a hoodie, sweatpants and socks and he's wearing a t-shirt and shorts with wet hair just out of the shower and he rolls his eyes when I complain it's cold in the house.

I haven't read all nine pages but when DH was a boy he wore shorts year round because he liked feeling the cold air on his legs. The school used to call his house and his mother would always sigh and explain the daily fights before she gave up. In 6th grade he moved to a private school whose school dress code required him to wear pants and that was that. But even today on chilly days I still frequently find DH in shorts.

When we lived in the UK I saw plenty of young English schoolboys wearing uniform shorts on days that we'd consider cold and wet. They obviously didn't mind.

Huh? I let my kid wear what he wants. How is he being defiant and challenging boundaries when hes is full control of his clothing and outerware? You are an idiot and I mean that with honest sincerity.
