Don't. This is WSJ's third year only. No one in higher education recognizes it yet. USN&WR has been around since 1983 and it remains the gold standard. Vandy is in what is now a trendy city and has used merit aid and a focus on standardized tests to greatly increase perceived selectivity. If you look at standardized tests, they are well above UVA and W&M and they used to be below. They essentially have done what Duke did years ago and Chicago did more recently.

The point is still valid and why call someone an idiot over this? WSJ and Forbes decide to combine classifications. USNews decided to follow Carnegie classifications. And even then they made the decision to combine High Research R2 (Wake, W&M, Dartmouth, Rensselaer, etc.) with Highest Research R1 (Michigan, MIT, etc.).

Vandy has been highly regarded, but if you go back and look at selectivity, like the post says, it was historically less selective than UVA and W&M. Duke has been more selective as long as I can remember. Vandy has become much more selective over the past 10 years.
