Define "prestigious".

To be consistently ranked in the top 25.

Ah, a tautology. Then...yes, it is.

For example PA has just as many HS graduates but Penn state 3 times the number of spots as UVA for freshman.

It's too bad VA was not committed to educating all their community in an effort to have a low acceptance rate.

VA Tech is the comp for Penn State. Virginia has a wide variety of public universities. UVA is a public ivy.

Exactly, It's not like UVA is the only state school in VA. What a stupid post.

UVA is prestigious.

Then you know no one from the Big 3. It's their favorite backup.

Sorry the rejection still stings.

Sad that you have to use ad hominem arguments because you have nothing else.

I went to Engineering school so UVA was not even on my list.

Even among non-Jewish students?

They stay "prestigious" by keeping the school small and upping their rankings by low acceptance rates. How is that so hard for you to understand.

It has nothing to do with the value of their education, it's a supply and demand issue.

It's a good state school nothing more nothing less.

Sure. Right. Consistently ranked as high as the nation's top private colleges makes it merely "good."

Sorry, but US News is the gold standard.

The world rankings are the gold standard.

Meh. I respect the criteria used for the WSJ rankings.

UVA is not the only ranked school in VA.

VA tech is top 70. W &M is top 50.

All together, there are 48000 undergrads in those three schools.

By comparison, PA (which has twice as many people) has 60K students in top 100 schools. Scales to the populations, VA schools are better than > PA.

CA has 185K slots in top 100 schools, but has 5x as many people as VA.

Lots of PhDs / MDs. If you're not in academia or medicine, you're unlikely to.
