Why are American women so frumpy?

I spent the last three weeks in France and have to say, the women in general look much more attractive than in the U.S. I was amazed by all of the lean, well groomed, and healthy looking moms in bikinis at the beach.
It isn't just a female thing- the men looked equally as good.
It's not just the American women that look frumpy- it's the American men as well.

I went around in a tank and lulu shorts today.

No makeup, no pedi. OTOH, I’m still a size 0/2 so my legs are looking pretty good in short shorts.

Have I given up?

To be honest, I’m kind of past caring.

There are certain things I haven’t let go (I still get my roots done every 2 weeks, bikini wax regularly, work out, maintain my weight).

But I’d rather wear athleisure than anything else and since it’s so common nowadays. Shrug.

Italians are better at every day fashion.

They wear black or natural leather purses and shoes. They wear dress pants or skirts. The men are in blazers or suit jackets and pants. The women wear simple styles. They don't wear tee shirts, hoodies, athletic wear and shoes or swimwear like flip flops as every day attire.

In Bermuda, the people dress more formal every day, even though they are on the beach. They wear jackets, ties, shoes and sock, and Bermuda shorts instead of pants. The beach wear is conservative. It's not acceptable for women to walk around with a lot of skin showing, even with their beach attire.

Some countries are more conservative in their clothing and that usually looks dressier and less sporty and athletic by American standards.

I can be just as a comfortable in a white blouse and chino pants and leather shoes and purse, and a I can in yoga attire, really.
