I've known a few in my lifetime and that's very accurate.

You mean, "a writer"? Pretty accurate assessment, if you ask me.

I don't know who this woman is, but I hope her mental helth improves, she comes to her senses and finally understands, for her and her family's sakes, that certain things are better left private.

Oh, FFS. Is this the first time you've heard someone write about depression and suicidal thoughts? Writing about their experiences is, you know, what writers do. Should all depressed people keep their thoughts private? Heaven forbid we actually talk about mental health.

She's not. Unlike DCUM, which is all about giving strangers life advice.

+1 And with malice, no less.

Writers write about depression and suicidal thoughts. Mommy bloggers write ethically ambiguous online diaries that are rarely sensitive to their children's privacy. When the two intersect, it's doubly wrong.

Nothing like all of Larla's friends knowing that Larla's crazy mom took too many pills last week and wants everyone to know. Just vile.

This is just my opinion but I think its fine for her to share. But the level of detail she went into -- just seems. I don't know... attention seeking? Maybe its just me though.

I don't understand this criticism of published writing as "attention seeking." I mean, do you consider every writer who publishes anything for money to be "attention seeking"? How would we have an internet (opinion page/bookstore/magazine )without people willing to post and publish content?

I agree, it had an odd tone.

OP here - I'm definitely not the blogger nor do I know her personally. I'm just a long-time reader hoping to discuss with other readers.

You win the internet with this slight change “giving strangers bad life advice....”

That ship sailed yars ago. I would say the tone, the level of detail, sounds self-absorbed. No quite the same thing.

But, did she seriously post a video of her singing happy birthday with her kid right after a suicide attempt? The contradiction in tone is enough to make my head spin and the appropriateness of it? I feel sorry for that child. Stop posting anything with your kids and go fix yourself so you can take care of them.

No - that was right before her attempt. Let's please not bash her here.

Why not? I still think that is vastly inappropriate. Yes, I hope she gets well but that speaks volumes

Trying to wrap my head around someone asking "why not?" to the statement, "Let's please not bash her here."

This is what is wrong with our society today, and is an example of why social media is one of the main causes of rising suicide rates. Dear God.

This. Jesus.

You might be right, in that she puts herself out there, but does that fact really exempt you from demostrating a little kindness?

This is precisely why I've never understood why women look to mommy bloggers or parenting coaches for guidance. I know several IRL, and I would never seek guidance from them given what I've observed.

The worst one often posts unhinged all caps/exclamation point lectures criticizing us...and then a day or two later posts something about herself of her kids that seemingly underscores her lack of self-awareness.
