Not going to click on the link bc I don't want to give her another "click," but I hope she's getting the help she needs.

Let's hope she doesn't read this. This sort of thing is the last thing someone in a fragile state of mind needs to see. I hope mods will delete out of human decency.

SHE MADE HERSELF PUBLIC.

She can delete her blog if she feels the need.

I agree it's 100% inappropriate, irresponsible, etc to put all this out where her easily identifiable kids or their tween friends can see it.

Wow.

"She made herself public, so by God, you can bet I'm going to kick her while she's down! That's on her."

Wow, is right. Seriously??

I'm not kicking her. I wish her peace and good mental health. I think posting about it on a public 'mommy blog' especially considering the ages of her kids is mind-boggling.

Agree with you. And for her to write "I'm here to stay" when clearly she has serious mental health issues. It makes it seem like she is taking this very lightly. Scary.

This really bothered me, too.

She's not. Unlike DCUM, which is all about giving strangers life advice.

Her website literally has a section called "advice smackdown."

But, did she seriously post a video of her singing happy birthday with her kid right after a suicide attempt? The contradiction in tone is enough to make my head spin and the appropriateness of it? I feel sorry for that child. Stop posting anything with your kids and go fix yourself so you can take care of them.

No - that was right before her attempt. Let's please not bash her here.

Why not? I still think that is vastly inappropriate. Yes, I hope she gets well but that speaks volumes

Trying to wrap my head around someone asking "why not?" to the statement, "Let's please not bash her here."

This is what is wrong with our society today, and is an example of why social media is one of the main causes of rising suicide rates. Dear God.

This. Jesus.

You might be right, in that she puts herself out there, but does that fact really exempt you from demostrating a little kindness?

Seriously. Under what circumstances do you decide that all expectations of human decency are gone? How about having some standard for yourself that isn't so malleable or based on the person you're judging?

+1 And with malice, no less.

The woman who nearly kills herself because of her stressful life as a white UMC mom actually *does* dispense life advice:

Line up ladies, she can only provide so much wisdom in one day!!

That's her column on Alphamom. Which is about giving others life advice.

This is precisely why I've never understood why women look to mommy bloggers or parenting coaches for guidance. I know several IRL, and I would never seek guidance from them given what I've observed.

The worst one often posts unhinged all caps/exclamation point lectures criticizing us...and then a day or two later posts something about herself of her kids that seemingly underscores her lack of self-awareness.

+10000

Who reads that crap?

Ah, okay. Links to another site, Alphamom. I think the advice-giving on her personal blog is pretty minimal. Some people ask for opinions on cloth diapers, etc. Regardless, I don't disqualify everyone who has depression from having opinions or even giving advice. Sometimes the best advice comes from people who have made bad decisions or struggled themselves.

PS - I personally don't get advice anywhere on the internet, except from Amazon reviews!

I don't know this woman. Nor do I know about her life or advice giving.

I do know someone who attempted suicide in almost the same manner at almost the same age, also with 3 kids. She was not ready just over a week after attempting it to be blogging about it. She spent a week inpatient then was in very demanding daily outpatient therapy which included limited screen time and ZERO social media. Part of her therapy was internal reflection without external forces.

Again, I have no idea about this woman but it seems amazing to me that shortly after attempting suicide she is blogging about it.

Yes. I wondered why she was "home" so soon. They usually don't release patients that attempted suicide so quickly.

I don't understand this criticism of published writing as "attention seeking." I mean, do you consider every writer who publishes anything for money to be "attention seeking"? How would we have an internet (opinion page/bookstore/magazine )without people willing to post and publish content?

sure but this was a suicide attempt. VERY serious stuff. And her post seems sort of odd. We had a suicide in our family this year and there is no way I can see anyone writing anything like that week after it happened. Just something off about her tone. Perhaps we should be worried about her -- I certainly hope she's getting help because the way she wrote it is like "everything is fine now". Can it be really???

She was inpatient for a week. Do you have any idea what the state of mental health care is in this country? (poor) As soon as someone is deemed no longer a danger to themselves/others, they are discharged. Now, there are options for private hospitals, but those are outrageously expensive.

She was in-patient for a week.
