Popular area "mom blogger" attempted suicide

Ugh OP, why did you bring Amy into this cesspool? DCUM trolls are the last thing she needs.

I've read her for years and always really liked her.

But, did she seriously post a video of her singing happy birthday with her kid right after a suicide attempt? The contradiction in tone is enough to make my head spin and the appropriateness of it? I feel sorry for that child. Stop posting anything with your kids and go fix yourself so you can take care of them.

I'm pretty sure the birthday party was just before the attempt. You obviously don't regularly read her blog or you would know about her other children and her struggles with depression and anxiety.

NP. Yes, obviously the party was before the attempt. Posting the video on the page describing the event? I agree, time to take down the blog. The kids are, or soon will be, old enough to see all of this.

Once again, you don't read her blog so you are unaware of her story. She's been blogging for more than a decade and the one child you see in the one single post you've read is her youngest. Her other children already read about themselves on her blog. She posts everything with their permission.

I'm the first poster who said it was inappropriate. And yes, I realize that people who blog like this can have issues with attention seeking - and obviously she does have some mental health challenges. I am certainly far from perfect. What I don't like is that post. And yes, I don't read that blog but I can comment on it and I think it is entirely within my right as she does all this publicly! By her actions, she has opened herself up to public opinion. And her kids might be giving her permission now - but that's because they love her. They could change their minds completely or it could cause damage in ways they do not even realize. She's the parent - she should be protecting her children - not opening them up to the same public opinion that you are arguing against.

Thank goodness she's ok. The struggle against depression is real.

Yeah, I looked at the About page. The oldest was born in 2005. Old enough to read this stuff but not old enough to "consent" -- too old to be blogging about.

Yeah, I'm sure reading her About Page is exactly the same as reading 10 years worth of posts.

Have no idea who she is, but if we are going to speculate, let's instead think about the fact that so many people are on the cusp of desperation, many you would never know it. So please, let's be kind to each other and to strangers. You simply dont know what someone is going through.

Do you disagree with my point about blogging about children? Or do you think it's fine, now and in their future?

NP. She has a public blog. There’s nothing inappropriate about talking about someone who puts their personal life on display. If you don’t want to participate in the thread then don’t read it.

I would hope that in today's climate, in light of recent high profile suicides, we could all be a bit gentler with each other.

Yes she does. But the difference is that she puts her NAME on all her posts. Everyone here can reveal truly horrible things because it's all anonymous. If this was a Facebook discussion it'd feel more fair. Because your name would be attached to your posts.

Well that’s not the way this site works. For any public figure that is discussed. And if you feel so strongly that names should be attached to posts, why aren’t you logged in with your real name?

Uh, mommy bloggers use pseudonyms for themselves and for their children. That means it's not their name on all their posts.

Another NP. Agree 100%.

Not going to click on the link bc I don't want to give her another "click," but I hope she's getting the help she needs.

Let's hope she doesn't read this. This sort of thing is the last thing someone in a fragile state of mind needs to see. I hope mods will delete out of human decency.
