Volvo SUV dream went south, need plan B for a reliable family car.

Traded in my volvo wagon for the highlander. The toyota is a dream compared to volvo. The volvo had a luxurious interior but needed expensive repairs and maintenance. Even when taking it in for routine maintenance it cost me close to 1k every time. Last straw was when the transmission died and it was gonna cost me 6k. A 6 year old car! Got my toyota and never looked back!

Our 2011 audi q5 was a lemon. Guzzled oil and lots of other problems. It was the first model year, though.

I guess the older models were made better. I drive a 2005 Volvo XC90 and of course there have been costs here and there (tires and breaks), but this car is still going strong. We’ve had one “big” repair (don’t remember exactly what it was, but the cost was around 1,000. Husband drives a much newer Highlander. I like driving his car, but love my old Volvo.

Our Audi sucked @ss as well...so did my friemd’s New BMW.

I will never buy a German car while living in the States again.

FWIW, OP, I have a 2016 Volvo XC-90 and haven’t had a single problem yet.

Toyota Highlander. We have the Hybrid version, which I think is sold only as a Limited (higher end). Leather seats, captains chairs for the second row, and easy to use fold down third row. Reliable, because who has the time or mental energy to waste on incessant car repairs?

My brother has a Mercedes SUV, my FIL has an Audi Q7 and MIL drives a Q5. At Easter the subject came up because my wife and I are looking for a new SUV and they ALL started complaining about how expensive they have all been to own - and how frequently they require repairs and expensive maintenance. Having been disappointed with our American made lemon of an SUV we are almost certain to buy a Honda or Highlander next month. I'm not thrilled with their looks, but I'm tired of spending $2K every year in repairs/service checkups for one car.

This is what we are looking at as well if I can limp along our current car until July...check engine light just came on again just 3 weeks after the last repair...

Serious question... I've lived in MD/VA over the past 45 years and I've known at least a dozen people over that time that have driven a Subaru forester and they were all LGBTQ and/or crunchy (save the earth type) people. Nothing against either group... I've had several good friends, a couple neighbors and even a boss who all drove Subaru forestors and fell into one of these groups. I always just wondered why this seemed to be the case. I'm sure this isn't representative of all Subaru drivers but it's been something I always wondered about since I haven't seen something like this with other cars.

^Sorry, I guess that was more of an observation than a question

For some of the Forester lovers (I have a 13 year old Forester!), please note the correct spelling.
