What if Trump is right, and these countries really are shotholes

R here. I tend to agree. Hope he changes his demeanor and tempers his comments.

Until you can provide irrefutable proof , I think there has been no war on the African continent that has come anywhere close to world war 1 and 2 but please keep wallowing in your ignorance

Please provide some images of wonderful Cathedrals, beautiful cities, pristine natural landscapes from Haiti and Africa. And a list of famous inventors and great thinkers to come out of these places. How many Nobel prize winners have come out of Africa or Haiti?

I can show you before/after photos of US cities that were once clean, beautiful and thriving. And now are shitholes.

And I’ll give you the common denominator in these shitty places

Are you kidding me????

The continent of Africa has some of the most astonishing natural wonders on this planet. Ever been to Victoria Falls??

Ever heard of the ancient Egyptians who built g-d pyramids without the use of wheels? Know nothing about the Carthaginians? Never been to Timbuktu? Never read any Chinua Achebe or listened to Malian music? I've got 3 words for you: Ali Farka Toure.

Africa's rich natural resources have been plundered for centuries by Europeans. If it was always a "shithole" continent, why did Europeans try to overrun it?

Dude, you could have at least checked a wikipedia page before posting such nonesense, exposing your complete ignorance of history. Sounds like you missed out on a college education.

Ancient times have, sort of, passed. That's when Africans most likely peaked. At this point the turn into a shithole even the good things that have been created for them, such as South Africa.

As PP said, the good times passed when miserable European parasites plundered these countries to enrich their own. Africans didn’t peak- their civilizations were systematically erased. You should really go back to your cave and learn to troll better...or just start reading in general. You can start with “The Little Engine That Could.” It’s good for beginners.

Remember when we turned away boatloads of Jewish refugees during WW2 because we essentially thought they were "sh#thole countries" and were not "American enough"? Many of those people were subsequently gassed. It was one of the more shameful moments in American history.

Many refugees today face similar circumstances in their home countries - death by local gangs, mafias, sexual slavery, secret police, rogue security services/warlords, or abuse by family.

Do we really want to make the same mistakes again? The vast majority of refugees are hard working and eventually do not need welfare. The next generation is even more successful.

Aologize to the chief "S..t head"? He and his cronies owe the Nation and the world and apology.

Are you kidding?! No person, much less the President of the United States should call a friendly nation a shithole!! You are talking about people's home.

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."

There are no caveats for "shit hole" countries. If you're going to honor the ideals of this country, then it doesn't matter if our President is right or not. And that in and of itself is significantly up for debate. He has debased and disrespected our country in every way possible. Enough.

Are you quoting the Constitution?

Didn’t think so. He’s the President, you’re not. Buh bye

He's the president, not a dictator (much to his chagrin).

Says the person who screams bloody murder at any suggestion about removing "under God" from the pledge of allegiance (wasn't originally there) or changing the national anthem to something more accessible and beautiful.

The hypocrisy is astounding.

The left is criticizing Trump for immigration policy based on country of origin, or characteristics of country of origin, rather than individual merit, while simultaneously wanting to keep the diversity immigrant visa program, which is THE EXACT SAME THING: allowing immigrants purely on the identity and characteristics of certain nations, rather than individual merit of the applicants.

No they are criticizing the conflation of merit based with country based. Which A. Shows a lack of understanding of the policy issues B. Carries hints of racism (Norway has more "merit" than Ghana, heh heh)

Those are not the ideals of this country. It's a poem written to raise money for the pedestal of the statute of liberty. It was written and forgotten, only to be brought back after a campaign by the author's friends in 1903. The poem itself was written in 1883. Guess what passed in 1882? The Chinese exclusion act.

I admit the poem has a lot of charm to it, but little attachment to reality.

Sorry, what? Isn't it the point of the Diversity Immigration Visa program that immigrants from certain countries, or countries with certain characteristics, have qualities (i.e. merit) that is beneficial to the US?

Of course they're ideals of this country. GMAFB. It's at the gateway to our country. It's taught in school. It's in our history books. And until Trump, it is something that has been viewed as an ideal of this country for decades. Nice try though. As for your reference to the Chinese Exclusion act, I never said all of our leaders were perfect or acted honorably. But, even when that was the case, most Americans could agree in the principles of what this country is supposed to stand for.
