The issue is not whether the countries are in difficult state, but whether such a state means that it’s inhabitants are undesired in the US. In fact, most of our ancestors came here from shitholes. The American dream is a penny less immigrant becoming wealthy through hard work. Trump would replace that dream with a racially clean vision of a white America.

My taxes support a broken welfare system that allows immigrants to feed off of hard working Americans.

This is not comparable to the people who came here 100 years ago and had to work to survive. Today, anyone in the US can stop working and still have basic needs.

Other issue is that we need to stop focusing on the word “shithole” and focus on the principle he was espousing for immigration. He wants to allow immigration from countries with white Europeans. On one side he talks about merit visa on the other side he has decided that he doesn’t want people from these countries. So he wants immigration based on color of skin and not merit.”Merit” is a code word to justify his racist policies.

Haitian Americans average $47,541, which is below the national average, but well above the average for African Americans ($40,931) and Mexican Americans ($38,000). He was referring directly to Haiti. Also trump wouldn't refer to Ghana or Nigeria as he probably just thinks those are cities in the country of Africa.
