According to my sister who was a long time NBC News employee, everyone knew he was having an affair but she says it was consensual so is confused by the accusation of harassment. She also thinks he is a good guy (affair notwithstanding).

I think this is where it gets confusing. How does your sister know it was consensual? Perhaps it started off that way. Maybe she wanted to stop and he didn't and then tried to use his status/power to get his way.

What does your sister think of the button under his desk to lock women in?

Not that pp but it has been established that almost all of the stars had those buttons so that they could easily control who they buzzed in w/o having to walk over to the door. Katy probably had one in her office. All of them do.

Or, to lock people out...

Security could enter if there was a ruckus

She could easily not have known. The only time she was with Matt was on the air for the most part. They had separate staffs and separate offices. Plus, the women didn't talk about it.

I believe the women who said they didn't know because it happened in my office to a young intern and I didn't know until this ten plus years later.

You're so condescending. How many people are comfortable making accusations against someone unless they have hard proof? "Knowing" something and having proof of it are two different things.

I know, right? She’s not allowed to just have her own professional and personal life she has to police her Co anchors’ sex life too?
You people are nuts.

I think that she probably had a clue that he was fooling around on his wife but that was just typical ML crap. Not something that Katie approved of or monitored....what happened between other consenting adults was not her business.

I'm confused. I thought Matt Lauer had a completely consensual relationship with the production assistant? Was there something that was non-consensual?

She also recently said that whole comment was taken out of context and it was simply her JOKING.

Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, when she quipped that the most annoying thing about Lauer was that he "pinches me on the a** a lot."
"I mean, I think that's very illustrative of the current media landscape, that something can be plucked, and then taken out of context. Like, it's a silly joke on a late night show that was just that, a silly joke, and people, I think, read into everything these days, and I think it just goes with the territory," she shared. "But it was nice for me to be able to say that that was a joke."

I believe her. Both she and Lauer had their own, huge offices - they were stars. It's not like they shared an office. I'm sure she knew he was a "cad," as another PP put it, and that he liked the ladies, but that's not the same thing as hearing about something abusive. I'm actually surprised the woman didn't confide in Katie, as she seems like the kind of person people would confide in.

THIS.

Honestly, this production assistant stated that the relationship was CONSENSUAL. She was 24 yrs. old; not underage.

I have to wonder how you can have a consensual relationship with someone and then decide it was abuse.

I think people "knew" that Lauer and Weinstein were womanizers, who used their fame and position to get laid. I don't know that people knew that they were sexually assaulting/harassing people.

These kinds of "SHE KNEW" recriminations are not helping the MeToo movement. It's important to focus on the actual criminals and harassers, and not on bystanders.

Why shouldn't bystanders be called out?
They should NOT have kept silent.
