How do you feel about black pants for mcps winter concerts?

There’s no dress code at MCPS Title 1 schools.

They have it at focus schools.

Do u live under a rock Op?

Maybe OP can't afford it. Think of all the high FARMS schools. Forgo something something else they need for a one night event or tell kid they can't participate?

Oh so the poor kids should wear khakis, a tie and Sperrys instead?

How about khakis, a tie and whatever color shoes they want? IMHO Sperrys is ubiquitous for comfortable, brown dress shoe.

Wait until high school when you have to buy a tuxedo. And more than one since they grow.

Or maybe op went to a private school?

FTR: the dress code isn't just for the band. Our school uses this dress code for the winter choir concert (4th and 5th graders). It's mandatory, not an elective like band.

And at private schools, the dress code for such a thing is "holiday best." I think kids would like nicer in their holiday best (sparkly or velvet dresses, red/green or blue/silver, holiday ties. etc.). Plus, it adds to the festive spirit.

Buy a pair of black pants and shut up.

The. lack has been required because it mimics what a professional orchestra would wear.

Target and H&M are good sources for cheap black pants & black shirt ( which is required instead of white for some orchestras at our school.)

Ask your music teacher if there is an band/orchestra closet where you can donate/trade your old stuff or ask on the school listserv if there is one.

So if the boys wear khakis --- what should the girls wear to match?

Its been a challenge for us as well -- we have a plus size girl. I've ordered some things and hopefully something will work. Then I'll have to do returns on the other stuff. I'll live though!

Any dress they want. Since the elementary winter choir and band concerts are now, why not wear whatever they're planning to wear for Hanukkah or Christmas, or whatever dress they would wear to a nice event?

Gosh! If your kid does not have black pants and will wear the pants only for concerts then buy from Walmart. It is available for less than $13.

Similarly for shoes. You do not have to buy the fanciest Clarks shoes. You can go to payless or walmart and buy it for the concert.

Whatever the band instructor asks for.

Ours asked for black pants - No leggings. Or a black at least knee length skirt. White top, black tights and shoes.

One girl wore skinny black dress pants, a hip length, cowl neck white sweater and black high heeled boots. A more up to date look.

I Don't think boys in black khakis is a bad thing.

Nope. I just find it supremely annoying to buy black shoes and black pants that will be worn one time. And FTR, I think black pants and a white shirt from Target look worse than nice khakis and a dress shirt and tie. If given the option, the boys in our area would wear VV or RL.

Op, why one time? Mine is in 4th grade in Fairfax and it was a pain to find some that fit - he's 5'2 and skinny and wears size 6 shoes so $$$ - but I'm planning to make him wear them for other events. I found them on Amazon - the shirt was $8 all cotton and the pants $20 for wool blend. I don't like khakis on men / boys, wool pants look so much better, especially skinny cut ones.

We are also ordering and planning returns?

Any dress they want. Since the elementary winter choir and band concerts are now, why not wear whatever they're planning to wear for Hanukkah or Christmas, or whatever dress they would wear to a nice event?

The focus should be on the music, not the fashions onstage. The “uniform” requirements are for just that purpose. Besides, no Jewish kid I know (including mine) has a special outfit for Hanukkah. We certainly don’t dress up for this holiday the way Christians might for Christmas. And our High Holy Day outfits are either seasonally inappropriate or too somber for a festive occasion. (Though now that I think about it, Yom Kippur would be a perfect opportunity for my DS to wear black pants and a white dress shirt! )
