How do you feel about black pants for mcps winter concerts?

Anonymous
Mom with grown children in their 30s-

One year, i had my son wear black sweatpants because we missed the memo on the dresscode. Another time, i outfitted him and his friend with his sisters black pants. As previous posters have said, this dress code for concerts has been arounf forever. I didnt stress or complain about it

My kid never wears khakis! I much prefer the black pants.

My sons always had a pair of black pants to wear. Khakis are too casual for dressy occasions.

This is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of renting or buying the instrument.

Though the idea of an exchange is a good one

Do u live under a rock Op?

Nope. I just find it supremely annoying to buy black shoes and black pants that will be worn one time. And FTR, I think black pants and a white shirt from Target look worse than nice khakis and a dress shirt and tie. If given the option, the boys in our area would wear VV or RL.

Op, why one time? Mine is in 4th grade in Fairfax and it was a pain to find some that fit - he's 5'2 and skinny and wears size 6 shoes so $$$ - but I'm planning to make him wear them for other events. I found them on Amazon - the shirt was $8 all cotton and the pants $20 for wool blend. I don't like khakis on men / boys, wool pants look so much better, especially skinny cut ones.

One time because my boys' feet grow so fast, and they have no other reason to dress up really (not in black anyway).

Girls/women look hideous in khaki.

There’s no dress code at MCPS Title 1 schools.

They have it at focus schools.

PP is referring to a school uniform, which no school in MCPS, Title I or not, has, and is now somewhat synonymous with poorer public school districts. A band/orchestra dress code is different, which at least some MCPS Title Is do have.

I just think it’s hilarious that OP is bitching about spending $12 on a pair of black pants yet seemingly has no issue blowing several times that on stuff like Ralph Lauren or Vineyard Vines for a kid. Doesn’t make any sense.

I don’t iron so khakis don’t work for us. Black looks neater and hides the wrinkles.

Which ones? I have friends with kids at focus schools in MCPS and they don’t have dress codes.

Anonymous wrote:Actually its the black shoes that annoys me. They aren't the same size from winter concert to spring concert. I'm thinking of starting a black dress shoe exchange at school.

PP this would be very helpful.

The same people who complain about not being able to afford dark colored shoes from Payless are somehow able to buy high end brand name shoes.

It is a complete outrage that kids are forced to wear black pants for a concert. Black pants are hard to find, and I don't have time to shop for pants at this time of year, with all of the other responsibilities I have. I'll be calling the school Monday.
