If your husband is a SAHD

Yawn.

This sentiment had been firmly established, why did you feel like responding?

Thread is two days old and has anyone asked what DH wants to do? JEEBUS, the only two ppl who know what to do are OP and her husband. To summarize this thread, " well it depends, some SAHDs are great some are losers and most PPs are judgmental pricks". There are so many trade offs; just make sure both of you are fully invested in either choice and definitely hook up with a multiples group.

We knew it was temporary for us (I had taken a few years off with our others and had a great opportunity that I felt would boost my long-term career options). He went back after a year and I dropped back to part-time.

If it was so great why did he stop.

I said that he was fabulous at it not that it was what would work for our family long term or what he wanted. He did it for me and did it well, but it was never part of our long-term plan. He enjoyed his career, eventually wanted to get back to it and I didn't feel called to be the long-term single breadwinner for our family. He enjoyed it while he did it but was also glad to get back to work.

My husband stays at home. Started when kids were 3 & 5. He could earn more than me but his line of work requires a lot of travel time, plus his commute was horrible. Been 5 years. In theory it could be isolating, but he goes to the gym most mornings, he is involved with local politics (like school board), leads Cub Scout den, and gets time to go for motorcycle rides, fishing, etc.
