My husband stayed home for almost a year and was fabulous at it. He took over all the household responsibilities and did it with gusto. We knew it was temporary for us (I had taken a few years off with our others and had a great opportunity that I felt would boost my long-term career options). He went back after a year and I dropped back to part-time.
If it was so great why did he stop.
I said that he was fabulous at it not that it was what would work for our family long term or what he wanted. He did it for me and did it well, but it was never part of our long-term plan. He enjoyed his career, eventually wanted to get back to it and I didn't feel called to be the long-term single breadwinner for our family. He enjoyed it while he did it but was also glad to get back to work.
