Professional woman - belatedly woke!

Anonymous
This thread has turned into a clusterF discussion of grammar. What in the holy hell.

I feel bad for the OP.

And- duh! Because our culture and entertainment has been sharpened, for the history of humankind, by men.

It's starting to change but it's really amazing to realize how deep it goes. And once you take those rose colored glasses off- it's amazing how the real world works!

Ingrained. From one sister to another.

I know what both words mean, and I picked ingratiated deliberately. It's correct, thank you.

No, it simply isn't. You can say that women ingratiating themselves by deferring to men is ingrained in our culture, and I would agree! But you can't ingratiate pressure into culture--it makes no sense.

Ingratiate: bring oneself into favor with someone by flattering or trying to please them

I think it's an absolutely PERFECT description of how pressure on women is allowed and enabled to flourish in our culture. It was a deliberately selected word, and I'm absolutely not about to change it.

What I will say is it's sad women feel the need to nitpick about a word choice when we're speaking on the issues that OP brought up. But it does prove my point. Anyway, handmaidens will always be dismissed, by me at least.

And this entire exchange further proves that the stereotypes about women are all correct. Sad little petty minds.

All women are not to be judged by this dreadful exchange. There are annoying, nitpicky men out there just as there are women who do that. Frustrating? Yes. But that's what we're all working to change- the tendency of SOME women to needlessly attack one another (which most of the time doesn't come up but occasionally....)

Not to the level women are. Women take the cake for nasty petty behavior. Look at this entire site, geared towards women. A bunch of witches tearing each other apart. Most need sedatives.

Wow, if someone had told me there'd be 3+ pages of vitriolic discussion on incorrect word usage (and make no mistake, "ingratiated" was incorrect, and the after the fact attempts to justify it are hilarious, and a little sad), I'd have bet the focus would be on "woke."

Well.... this thread is probably an example you could use to support that thesis if you ever needed to... which is very unfortunate considering OP's intentions.

Only woman on woman. Pathetic. Immature. Disgusting.

Hope you had an OK day back at the office OP. If you enjoy your line of work and found a good employer, give it your all. Your husband will find his way.

I almost vomited trying to quickly read this thread. If I ran into any of those women on a peripheral grammar soapbox I might have slapped them.

Are you stupid broads really debating grammar instead of the very real phenomenon in OP? This forum is overrun by dumb bitches.

What's dumb is not acknowledging that one made a mistake and graciously accepting a very gentle correction. The original correction was hardly vicious, but the "ingratiated' lady went off the deep end.

Uh oh, one of the gramma trolls got called out and doesn't like it. Everyone in the thread hates you, deal with it.

This was supposed to be a thread about women's empowerment and it went down the toilet so fast. I wonder if OP is reconsidering what she said after this complete s***show.

I'm the PP who called you all stupid broads and I think both the grammar Nazis and the OP are idiots. The first grammar Nazi should have let OP's post go without correcting her. Adults don't need your correction. If you know the right way to use the word, then go ahead and use it the right way and let other adults be. I would be remiss not to note, however, that OP is a fool too. She misused the word and then was too proud to accept correction. I understand that being corrected pricks a person's pride, but OP should have been woman enough to admit her error before the whole thread was derailed. Everyone who participated in that nonsense gets an "F" for fool.

Hi, I am the PP who got corrected. You are assuming I didn't use it deliberately that way. It's not about pride, it's about I'm not going to be schooled by someone on something that I did correctly. Period. I gave a polite response, and then it was like a herd of hyenas descended. Whereas before the thread was empty. THIS is the issue of DCUM and why threads get derailed- a kind of mob mentality. I think this is what other posters are talking about with re: women are the worst. I disagree wholeheartedly but it is something I don't see men doing, and comes from, I believe a place of deep internalized misogyny. This instinct and thrill of tearing other women down- it's pathological.

Anyway, I hope OP knows I still support her wholeheartedly and other women (just not the ladies on this thread, lol). It was an unfortunate turn of events, but hopefully some can find the humor in it, as another example of DCUM absurdity.

PP here. No, you did not use the word correctly. Yes, you are an idiot. No, taking down someone too arrogant to admit a stupid mistake is not just something women do. Men do it too and are a lot nastier about it. I know because the majority of my friends are male.

In conclusion, move the hell on with your life and stop trying to argue with people just because you got called on a dunce moment. You're coming off as a really dumb bitch.

Anyone who uses the language you would use, and just did (which, btw - is not allowed on DCUM) is exactly why you called me in your last line. And not someone I care to take advice from.

For the last time, I used the word correctly, and no amount of DCUM harridans are going to convince. If you're so upset about the thread being derailed that you call women a variety of disgusting names- then stop derailing the thread! And look in the mirror, you delusional fool.
