I've had this one too... |

Once, when my (fantastic) boss was on vacation, I had to go in his place to a meeting with his boss and some other management-level people. The topic was in my team's area of expertise, and I outlined a plan at the meeting for how to proceed. In front of a bunch of high-level people in my organization, grandboss makes a big, loud fuss about how happy he was to be wrong about thinking it was a waste of time to have me at the meeting but how pleasantly surprised he was that I added so much value.
At the time, I was the most highly rated person in the department. The meeting was about something with which I had a lot of experience and expertise. It was mortifying. Of course, he was asked to move on a couple years later and I'm now one of those management-level people, so I guess it worked out okay. |
I got a ton of "I can't believe you don't want to be at home with your baby" and the like when I returned to work (still do 3 months later). I'm the breadwinner, if I don't work, we don't eat. Also a lot of "don't you want to take more time off?" when we don't have paid maternity leave. I finally broke down to the worst offender (she literally brought it up every time we spoke) and told her that I don't have a choice, I have to work but yes I would much rather be home with my child than with people who constantly bring up that they can't believe I would "leave my child with strangers" so if she could please just stick to talking about work, that'd be great. |

"Is the department's layoff recovery plan on your laptop?"
"Yes" "Great. Please hand me your laptop and go to the conference room. HR is waiting on the phone to speak with you also." |
| "Do you need a new set of knee pads? |

Manager told me "we can't have everyone sitting around at home eating bon bons all day" when I asked to cut back my hours as a cashier at a retail store I worked at in high school.
At the time I was overwhelmed with schoolwork and other activities and actually developed mono. Still remember that asshat. He would have never said that to a guy, either. Oh well I probably make a bit more than him now, by a long shot. |

"Why do you care about money anyway, your husband is a plastic surgeon."
^^^ Said in the context of discussing no raises one year. I'm a lawyer fwiw. |

My former boss was so racist. She once asked my colleague not to contact anyone with an "ethnic" sounding name when we were looking for prospective employees. She made so many racist comments about black people in front of me, even though I'm black. Then she would look at me and tell me that I'm the exception because I don't act like "them". She claimed that she wasn't racist because she doesn't like poor black people or white red necks. Thank god I no longer work for that racist lunatic. |

Oh can I play?
I was working at Goldman Sachs. I was an unpaid intern. I turned 21 while working there and my boss invited me for a drink. He was a VP, so conclude what income you want from that. We go have a drink, he finishes his, declares he has to go, and leaves me - the unpaid intern - with the bill. He was a dick. |
| "Don't you need to leave to let your babysitter go?'" said to me by a female boss with four children and a SAHH. |

My boss was mad at me because I didn't meet an "end of day deadline." (The short story is that a new biz proposal was due "End of Day" and when he called at 4 and we hadn't turned it in, he proceed to SCREAM at me over the phone saying we were late.) Now...you can define EOD however you want but EOD is NOT 4 p.m.
Later that evening when I was out with coworkers drinking, he came to the bar (a coworker sold us out), started yelling at me again, chased me INTO the women's bathroom where he proceed to yell at me some more. He was wasted and did call to apologize the next day but I should have taken it to HR. |
Yes- I've gotten SO many comments about not being a SAHM mom from co-workers. The worst thing my top-boss has ever said was that it made him uncomfortable for me to be pumping (breast milk). I initially shut the door and you couldn't see in so I was working on paperwork. Then he complained that it was unfair for me to work with the door closed (even though a co-worker did for her 3 kids!!!) and I had to keep the door open and so I wore a cover while I pumped and worked on paperwork and that too made him uncomfortable. I ended up having to pump in my car during my commute and increase my workday to accommodate my unpaid breaks that I would take in my office with the door shut. My immediate supervisor told me that I should feel guilty when I take any vacation (I work in child welfare!). He continues to give me grief anytime I take a vacation but doesn't harp on my co-workers when they take time off. |

Called me an inquisitive bitch, also said we should make skirts mandatory at a staff meeting where I was the only female.
This man also came up behind me and smelled me...after I put in 3 weeks notice and he had the nerve to "fire" me on the last day so they didn't have to take me out to dinner and he could try and humiliate me one last time. |
| Boss said he would "smack my face" if I kept acting how I was acting. |
