When I adopted a 2 week old, my boss told me that I should just leave him in foster care until a more convenient time for work because "he's already there" and "he won't know anyway".
On the other hand, she also told a co-worker they should "get to work" getting pregnant because the clock was ticking and they wanted to make sure they had a "real kid" and weren't stuck like me. At the time of the later comment, I was in my late 20's, and hadn't disclosed my adoption plants to anyone at work, other than my boss. |
I'm 45. No one comes to our job out of college because it requires an advanced degree and experience. It's not appropriate to mention a subordinate's age or that she is older than other workers. |

"You need to tease the customers like legendary stripper/entertainer Fannie something or other."
Said to me at an all hands meeting by CEO of the company. I was a new employee, fresh out of college and one of two females. Used this incident along with the other female employee to file a sexual harassment case... |
And it stuck?!? |

Quote from an email the owner sent me after I quit - this was over 10 years ago: "My recommendation is that you go into a business where you work in an isolated environment and not with people around you."
Woman was an absolute bitch with serious mental issues. You should see the firm's Glassdoor reviews now. Hilarious and nearly identical from review to review, except for one glowing one that says "Millennials are the problem, not the boss!" Wonder who wrote that. Best decision I ever made to walk away. Have been with the same company for the last decade since I left, got an immediate 35% raise at my next job, and now make 7x what that horrendous woman was paying. Yep, you're right lady, must be me and my people skills that were the problem. Oh, bonus! She was recruiting a former boss of mine and she reached out to me for insight. All I had to do was forward the nastygram email, and of course my former boss didn't take the job. Who's the one who burned the bridge, bitch? |
Not sure what your question was, but witnessed the ultimate karmic downfall of this man and learned the hard way how to advocate for myself. Yes, the lesson stuck for all involved. |
Years ago, when I worked at a restaurant, my young boss called me and a couple others "a bunch of retards" in front of a bunch of customers. |

First job out of college, had a boss say "I don't care if you quit, we'll just go hire another liberal arts girl who doesn't need the money. They're a dime a dozen." And yes, I did quit.
More recently had a boss scream at the top of her lungs "You'll leave when I tell you you can leave." She ended up leaving shortly thereafter. |
| " if this doesn't work, I'm going to f$?!ing kill you" |
| My boss said, in front of a staff member I was training:" it's not that hard, a trained monkey could do this job. " I left the next year, and he was demoted to, guess what? The job I was doing. Sweet sweet karma. |
|
"I will literally kill you"
"You are a f****ng idiot" "Have you written anything in your entire life?" |
| "Women should be at home taking care of their children" |
"Women who put their kids in daycare are doing their children a disservice. There is no substitute for a stay at home mom or a stay at home wife." |

Holding my month old newborn because I was summoned to my office during my six week "short term disability" leave in lieu of maternity leave. Boss wanted to know if I was really coming back or if I'd become a SAHM.
I came in prepared to ask to work a modified schedule, with one day in the field, three days in the office, one day off. Boss replied that if she let me do this, she'd have to do the same "for the other *girls*" - my female co-workers all about 25 and either newlyweds or single. |
| "You are a f------ing idiot!," yelled, in front of others. |
