Both are good, but Great Schools gives Marshall a 9 and Madison only an 8.

Madison has higher SATs, a higher US News rating, a higher Washington Post Challenge Index rating, more National Merit Semifinalists, better sports, better music programs, stronger college admissions, and a more popular curriculum (AP rather than IB). I'd take that against a GS rating based on SOL scores any time.

^ and I'm not saying Marshall is bad, just that OP said they wanted Vienna and Madison.

And Marshall is more diverse, which gives it an edge in my book. But you seem to be missing the point. Neither school is clearly "better." School quality should not be a driving factor in OP's decision between these two pyramids.

Disagree. If I can afford Langley, McLean or Madison, I'm not going to look in the Marshall district. Don't particularly want IB, and the higher number of low-income kids at Marshall is just a fact, not really a plus (if diversity is so great, why aren't the Marshall folks sending their kids to Falls Church instead)?

Think we'll have to agree to disagree on this point. We like IB and see positives in both racial AND socio-economic diversity. If our kids decide against IB we would send them to Falls Church with no qualms.

There are eight IB high schools in the county and only one - Robinson - is less diverse than Marshall. I'm just not buying your pitch that greater diversity at Marshall, relative to Madison, was really a plus for you.

There's ample reason to decide Madison is a stronger school, with a stronger school community, than Marshall and, with a $900K budget and some patience, OP ought to be able to find a nice home in the Madison district.

Madison is way too far. I would pick McLean then Marshall

It depends what your requirements are...900K should be a 30-40 yo colonial.

700K would be like my house, a 4 br. 2000 sq foot 1965 split.

The problem is, right now, inventory is very limited. Below 600K, the houses are sold as teardowns. So, the decent houses are starting at 600K.

And the new construction is art least 1.2 mil....now, I see some houses for sale; but they are going fast. Here is a listed house:
https://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/Vienna-VA-22180/fsba,fsbo_lt/51768428_zpid/67174_rid/globalrelevanceex_sort/38.910412,-77.269303,38.900811,-77.285889_rect/15_zm/1_rs/
It is an updated Rambler; I know the house and think it is a bit high (not mine, but near me).

Yeah not a good and your neighbors would be the kind that goes to falls Church high

^^^ Perfect example of why we avoided the uniformly wealthy districts...

The only uniformly wealthy public school districts in the DC region are Whitman and Langley.

At the end of the day, all of this boils down to the fact that no one wants to their kids to attend schools with the poors.

No interest in an IB school like Marshall. AP is much more flexible with better course options.

Plus less poors.

Crazy Madison lady needs to let it go. This thread is not going to make or break your property value.

Marshall is a great school. Madison is also a great school. One doesn't have to be bad for the other to be good.

Sounds like your problem is with OP, who said in the first post they'd like to find something zoned for Madison. There is no reason to settle for Marshall, which is OK but not in the same league, if they can afford to spend $900K. She just needs to keep looking.
