Thats disgusting. For that cash live in the City of Falls Church or Arlington. Or at least get your kids in the neighboring district and have them go to Mclean or Madison.

Marshall got a great renovation and you can walk there from Pimmit Hills.

On the other hand, George Mason looks like an elementary school and the high schools in Arlington don't have nearly enough seats.

Well George Mason has a much smaller enrollment than Marshall, thats one reason you may think it looks like an elementary school. As someone who spent a year a Marshall and 3 at Mason, they aren't even in the same universe academically.

Judging from your post, you would have been better served to have spent all four years at Marshall.

I don't think so. But whatever helps you sleep at night.

Seeing that Marshall has a larger cohort of students who excel at academics and other activities than George Mason, and that the two top schools for Mason grads are JMU and VCU, I sleep fine.

Very good, you realize that enrollment plays a factor in how many students a school has? Top two schools for Marshall grads? NOVA and GMU.

If you asked people in N. Arl. and McLean what they associate with Marshall High School, fully 60% of them would respond "white trash." I would not go anywhere near that school.

.

"Fully 60 percent"? So impressed you did a formal survey and have this specific figure at your fingertips to save us all.

OP, unless you care what these "people in north Arlington and McLean" (whose kids are not going to Marshall anyway) supposedly think, based on...nothing, please ignore this person and his or her weird grudge. The earlier post about the quality of the teachers and administrators at Marshall is accurate. DC goes there and has had mostly excellent teachers and a very good experience so far.

OP, since you kid is so young I'd focus on elementaries for now when getting a house. I agree with PPs saying the "forever home" idea may not be the way to go.

21:37. Very nice and thorough post. Good advice on the elementaries. Also want to add that Marshall is about 55% white, so it would be hard to associate this school with white anything. It's a very diverse campus with a diverse array of classes.

Charming.

For heaven's sake, the white families that live in that area mow their front lawns with dust busters. Marshall is not where you want to be.

Vienna is very accepting of many different faiths with many neighborhood groups devoted to providing safety for residents of all creeds and races but jewish children are still a minority. There just aren't a lot of jewish kids. Maryland has a much higher jewish population than Virginia.

The dustbuster commenter is just a troll. Plenty of $1 and $2 million homes in Marshall pyramid but there are apartments as well. It's diverse. I don't know anyone unhappy there and it's a great commuting location.

NP here - definitely not many $2 million homes in the Marshall district. High-end in that district is about $1.6 million and typical new build would be around $1.2 million.

Commuting to D.C. from the Vienna neighborhoods zoned for Marshall would suck, but the Falls Church neighborhoods zoned for Marshall are close to the WFC Metro.

Please post the name of the HS where your kids attend. Thus is exactly the mentality we're looking to avoid.

I don't understand why you aren't still looking in the Madison district, if that's where you want to be. It's a better school than Marshall and there are nice houses under $900K:

Both are good, but Great Schools gives Marshall a 9 and Madison only an 8.
