Baby born 5 months early

I believe you are correct on 22 weeks. The article says the baby weighed 1 pound, which would be around 22-23 weeks according to the below link:

He is blind/deaf (though with hearing aids and glasses he has a little bit of both senses) and likely severe learning disabilities. He requires an intense amount of care and intervention to keep him safe and to keep him engaged with the rest of the world. But he is sweet and happy and the joy of his parents' world.

No, you didn't.

NP, but why do you think PP would lie about that?

PP here. It is very possible I got the dates wrong. I definitely remember the 3 days part and the very low 20 week number. Sorry for the confusion!

No, the quotes about having another baby are from last year when they announced the pregnancy.

Hmmm I disagree. I read the blog of someone who just delivered at 23 w 2 days and the baby didn't survive. Every single day mattered to her because it would have been a day closer to viability had he stayed a bit longer. I highly doubt she would fudge up or down. The info is on her blog Pinch of Yum. So no this baby was not 5 months early and the parents know that.

They are asking for prayers for their 1 pound baby. You can argue dates with them if you want.

You know what, I'm so tired of this idea that casting ANY sort of a critical eye on a story is now considered to be mean and vulgar or something. Their baby is 1 pound and delivered early. Of course I wish the baby well. Why would they need to make an announcement saying the baby is 5 months early when that is not medically possible? That's all people are saying. It doesn't mean I wish the baby harm or hate these people. Is this what happens when we live in a post-factual world and nothing actually has to be based in reality anymore and we all just have to nod our heads and go along?

The baby is premature but the baby is not 5 months premature and still living.

did the mom post or the dad? If the dad, I'm giving a pass here. Dad's are clueless about this stuff usually.

+1 - I'm sure this is what happened. He's a dad and a basketball player so probably not that smart to begin with.

So what's if the due date was off? What?

Maybe she was further along than she realized.

You don't think the doctors would figure that out?

My baby was born full term and my doctors changed my due date for a few weeks earlier right after the 20 week anatomy scan. This means they figured out my baby was older than previously thought halfway through the pregnancy. It definitely happens.

Somebody definitely misspoke is all. Or maybe they were fudging the conception date because they only got married in August? Anyway, wish them the best of luck.
