Hmmm I disagree. I read the blog of someone who just delivered at 23 w 2 days and the baby didn't survive. Every single day mattered to her because it would have been a day closer to viability had he stayed a bit longer. I highly doubt she would fudge up or down. The info is on her blog Pinch of Yum. So no this baby was not 5 months early and the parents know that.

They are asking for prayers for their 1 pound baby. You can argue dates with them if you want.

You know what, I'm so tired of this idea that casting ANY sort of a critical eye on a story is now considered to be mean and vulgar or something. Their baby is 1 pound and delivered early. Of course I wish the baby well. Why would they need to make an announcement saying the baby is 5 months early when that is not medically possible? That's all people are saying. It doesn't mean I wish the baby harm or hate these people. Is this what happens when we live in a post-factual world and nothing actually has to be based in reality anymore and we all just have to nod our heads and go along?

The baby is premature but the baby is not 5 months premature and still living.

It isn't that your question is mean and vulgar; it is a time and place thing. Sometimes, people misspeak and make mistakes, and you just let it go. It doesn't mean nodding along blindly in the post-factual world; it just means having human empathy. They didn't write a scientific treatise.

they already have a child from before being married - I doubt anyone cares if she was a couple months pregnant at the wedding

"five months early" came from ONE post on Twitter or whatever, from the dad. That's the entire story. One social media post.

Why not round down and say 4 months premature?
Because they want attention?

+1 - I'm sure this is what happened. He's a dad and a basketball player so probably not that smart to begin with.

It was the MOM who said it in the video.

Even in the article it states that the mother said five months, not dad.

She had the baby at the end of December, but it was due at the beginning of May. December to May looks like a 5 month span on paper but it's really only about 4 months.

The baby was probably at 23-24 weeks. A 1-pound baby is a micro-preemie for sure. The best of luck and health to them.

My brother has terrible disabilities just from being six weeks early. I cannot even imagine.....

Josie Duggar was born at 25 weeks. She seems to be doing fine. These days.

Yes. And most parents of preemies talk about weeks rather than months, so they were generalizing for the public.

My preemie was 6 weeks early and it was scary. If he were 16 weeks (or however many) early, I'd be absolutely terrified.

I thought that was what I had read a couple days ago, but I wasn't positive. Didn't want to be wrong though

The newest articles say the baby was born between 21 and 22 weeks. As a mother of preemie twins, I can tell you that the hospital staff sometimes tells you to "round down." Mine were born at 33 weeks and 6.5 days but told that the staff would treat them as 33 weeks in deciding which tests to run, etc. (I was trying so hard to make it until midnight, ). If that is true here, someone would think 40 - 21 = 19 weeks early, closer to 5 months than 4 months.

That poor child, and what a horrible thing for the parents.
