Pregnant vegetarian craving meat

And...lots of protein and fat to be had from non animal flesh sources. Even more if you are not a vegan.

Please pass the guacamole!

Spoken like someone who's never actually set foot on a dairy farm.

Not worth it PP. They saw a PETA documentary in grad school and only they know the truth.

NP here. I have never seen a PETA doc But I have been on factory dairy farms. Not every dairy farm is a cute little mom and pop deal. There are a lot of big, gross, really awful dairy "farms" out there.

I am not vegan, but I am SUPER careful about how I source my dairy, and if I can't be sure, I just don't eat it.

You can be dismissive if you like, but it just takes you seem unwilling to learn anything different than your experience: the SAME thing you are accusing PPs of.

At any rate, a craving does not signify a nutritional deficiency, so OP's sister doesn't need to worry. She just needs to decide if the craving is stronger than her convictions, in the moment.

I'm dismissive based on personal interactions with PETA people, with whom no amount of reasoning serves to undo the misinformation they've snorted. I'm from farm country and have seen the range of farms; even Mom and Pop shops aren't cute little operations anymore. I'm also SUPER careful about sourcing meat and dairy.

And in pregnancy if you're craving something nutritious, best to treat it as a legitimate thing. Lots of vegetarians and vegans aren't that careful about nutrition. That's one thing when it's just you and quite another when you're growing your child's brain.

1. No one here is claiming they are PETA influenced You just ran with at because...I don't know why You assume someone has to be a crazy to draw different conclusions than you do? Seems pretty...self serving.

2. Most people aren't that good with their diets, and your assumption that somehow vegetarians and vegans are less so than the average population is completely unfounded, and again, shows your bias, not truth. On average, the vegetarian/vegan is MORE careful because he/she HAS to be. They are more likely to choose say, a chicken salad at dinner than the chicken fingers with fries.

3. Nice throwaway about the "it is one thing when you're eatin for yourself." SOOO lame. Pregnant vegetarians and vegan moms are not harming their kids. By that logic, anyone like me, who could eat NOTHING while pregnant and lost 10 pounds, are only thinking of their selfish needs to not puke again. Or women who can only stomach ice cream and tomato soup, are not thinking of their babies by forcing foods down their throats.

Ridiculous.

Former vegetarian here. I usually ate meat maybe twice a month prior to having kids. With my son, I craved red meat and roasted chicken. With my daughter it was fruit, dairy, and Indian food. Those who were vegetarian and craved meat--just curious if you were pregnant with boys?

I wasn't a vegetarian but didn't really like to eat red meat, but during my first pregnancy, the only thing I wanted when I was nauseous during the first tri was steak. A bloody, juicy one. (Sorry.) I still like steak to this day, but I don't eat it often. I didn't have similar cravings in the second preg. I only wanted to eat potato chips and drink Coke (bad nausea).

This. Eat meat during pregnancy, ladies.

Pregnant women who crave eating dirt or laundry detergent aren't "remembering a time long ago when they ate dirt". They crave it.

I was a meat eater who couldn't DEAL with the smell or texture of meat for the first 15 weeks or so with my first. So? I couldn't eat it. I ate what my body told me to during pregnancy.

+1. I become a vegetarian during the first trimester.

Hey! Me three. I couldn't even look at meat on TV without gagging. Meat, fish and even eggs just didn't happen. And I was repulsed by coffee. Strange, strange things happen to our bodies. I didn't care, I rolled with it.

I'm a 22 year vegetarian. When I was pregnant I said to myself, well, if I crave it, I'll eat it - it will be my body telling me what it needs. Never craved it. I was pretty relieved.

currently 28 weeks and all I want is steak and bagels with cream cheese. Fish/seafood makes me gag. poor DH loves salmon and is suffering. lol

Nope, girls. Both are quite the carnivores.

Q: How do you know if someone's a vegetarian?

A: Don't worry, they'll let you know.

I'm a non-veg and I crave beans.
