| Vegetarian here. Lots of people told me I was going to want some bacon or a hamburger while pregnant. Turns out I didn't. But thank guys, very helpful. |
Spoken like someone who's never actually set foot on a dairy farm. |
| My friend who was vegetarian for 20+ years craved meat during her pregnancy too. She ended up eating small quantities so I guess it's a common thing. |
Ha ha, same here. So many people asked if I would 'still' be a vegetarian during both of my pregnancies. Hm well I haven't eaten meat in 25 years, I'm certainly not craving it since I don't even remember what it tastes like. |
Same here. I only craved bagels and cream cheese during my pregnancy. |
NP. This is me too- everyone told me I'd be craving meat, but two pregnancies later, still a vegetarian. |
|
Cravings have no rhyme or reason. It isn't about "remembering what it tastes like" oh sanctiveggie- it's about your body having an innate need/desire for something.
Pregnant women who crave eating dirt or laundry detergent aren't "remembering a time long ago when they ate dirt". They crave it. I was a meat eater who couldn't DEAL with the smell or texture of meat for the first 15 weeks or so with my first. So? I couldn't eat it. I ate what my body told me to during pregnancy. |
| Vegetarian here who didn't crave neat while pregnant. o |
So, do you think people whose bodies are craving laundry detergent should eat what their bodies tell them to? |
| You need protein and iron. |
Whoosh. |
OP's sister, actually. Read the OP. |
Not worth it PP. They saw a PETA documentary in grad school and only they know the truth. |
I've certainly been to a dairy farm. And I'm not a PETA supporter. And I try hard not to make assumptions about people I don't know on the internet. Also, this thread is about whether vegetarians crave meat during pregnancy. My answer - no meat cravings, just cheese, and I didn't eat it. Good luck, OP! Hope your sister has some wonderful, supportive folks in her life. |
| NP vegetarian here. I had zero meat cravings. If eating meat is a religious problem, your sister should speak to her relevant leader. If it's an ethical issue, it's possible to purchase relatively more kindly-sourced meats. |
