I'd never buy another Nissan again!

Depends on the year. Quality went down after 2010.

I have an '06 Altima with over 130,000 miles that I bought used. It gets parked on a college campus so it gets more than its share of small dings (that's why I'm not buying a new car yet) but otherwise in great shape . Rarely needs any specific work done. Comfortable and drives nicely enough for an old car. Not a luxury ride, but I'm happy and would buy it again.

We like our Toyota corolla and Mazda 5. I hear Honda is good too.

it's another nissan with different name plate.

I'm on my third Infiniti sedan, they've all been flawless and great to drive.

The fact is, you could probably find a handful of customers who have had a bad experience with car brand X, where brand X is a mid-range type of car. This includes Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Kia, etc. For the most part, these cars are reliable, the car companies know what they're doing and most of their customers are happy with them, given what they paid for it.

My mazda mpv was a total lemon...cylinders went before 36k, new transmission, starter assembly and engine block before 70k (I remember as the cylinders went right before the 36K warranty ran out, and the other crap was on the extended warranty)

I have two trouble free Hondas and one "nothing but trouble" Nissan.

They both have science PhDs, so maybe that's the demographic? Ha.

Ha ha. DH and I also both have science PhDs and both drive Nissans. I have a 2008 Altima and he has a 2015 Leaf which is basically free to him after a bunch of rebates and a crazy good lease deal. We both previously had Hondas, and I have to say the Nissans have a better drive. My Altima was one of the first generation CVT transmissions, and I ended up having to get it replaced...but Nissan extended their warranty on the transmissions and I didn't pay a cent for the replacement. No problems since then. Ironically, DH did briefly consider the BMW i3 after hearing about a good lease deal for them, but he couldn't bring himself to even test drive that ugly car. We're in California, so EVs are a great commuter vehicle since you get carpool lane access.

I don't know about their long term durability, but we've both found the Nissan interiors to be surprisingly comfortable and spacious compared to other similarly sized vehicles. DH kind of jokes about his Leaf not being a real car, but if Nissan releases a 200 mile range Leaf he'd probably lease one again.

Whew, I almost bought an used Infiniti recently. I didn't see this thread, but was worried about them being expensive fixes compared to my Honda.

I have a 2008 Sentra that has always been a reliable car. I just realized it's getting close to a decade old! Definitely hasn't been my experience, OP. I like my Nissan.

Another Nissan fan here. I had an Altima that I loved and only had one minor issue with that was easily fixed, and I've had a Juke for three years, no issues at all so far. I think the interiors feel more expensive than they really are. I love them and I would definitely buy again. I am a lawyer and I don't wear too much makeup or tight clothes so I guess I'm bucking the demographic.

As far as Mitsubishi, which someone brought up, I think they only make three models anymore. I wish they'd been more popular. In the early 2000's I had a Galant that ran absolutely flawlessly. I got 200,000 miles out of it and never had one problem. I replaced a belt preemptively that had been somewhat expensive but that was simply being proactive. I'd buy a Galant again if they came back and weren't ugly as hell.

Do they still sell Nissan? I almost never see them. I remember it used to be called, Datsun.

You don't see them because they are all in the shop.

My second car was a 1992 Nissan. I loved that car, and it was very reliable through my college years. My next car was a Subaru Forester. I never had too many issues with that car either. My only gripe was that the seats were very utilitarian and not comfortable for long drives. I'm on my second Odyssey now, and I'm not ashamed me admit I adore my minivan. I was so upset when I was hit by a teen driver and my first one was totaled at 100K miles. I had almost no issues at all. I love it for the comfortable ride, seats, storage and reliability,i

Now, DH's 2005 Passat with only 70K miles' that's another story. Every single time we take it to the shop, it's 1-2 K to fix, and we have a local mechanic we trust. It's very comfortable, and feels very safe, but never again!

Nissan used to be solid #3 Japanese automaker behind Honda and Toyota but their quality control and design issues have really hurt them. I think Subaru has caught up with Nissan (and maybe even Mazda too)... Nissan reminds me of Sears/Kmart.
