Question for Madlax Parents

If your son is a top player with a good work ethic he will enjoy the experience. From my experience the people\players that had issues with Cabell were the parents who thought their child was better than they really were or players that were lazy during practices or games. Your son will have to try out at least twice a year and Cabell has no issues cutting players (or demoting them to the B team). This is not "daddy ball" like Bethesda and other teams coached by parents. Cabell was a very good coach and 90 percent of my sons team went on to play D1 lacrosse.

I kjow several families who had no problems until they tired of pverpayong and decided to leave. Allwere is threatened the same way as tree he Deadspin family.

As for no Daddy ball, ask the 24 parents what they think of the owner playing his two sons over more deserving players.

I've also heard of other families receiving threatening emails upon departing the program.

You should not be talking about specific kids but seriously his kids are incredibly gifted. If you are good you should get playing time even if you are related to the owner.

Good one.

Many of the top college programs have experienced or are in the midst of their own daddy ball scenarios. It seems to be more a part of the lacrosse landscape than many other sports.

Which of his kids - there's like 5 kids named Maddux, and all but one on a capital team. Begging the question, why doesn't Cabell coach Madlax teams that don't have his kids/relations on them?

All of these issues are continually litigated, but

(1) The owner of Madlax doesn't hide his approach. He is super intense at practices, in games, via email. Some kids respond to that and many have good experiences, many others don't. If you kid does and the Madlax practices are convenient, go for it. If not, lots of other choices.

(2) The idea that Madlax has some monopoly on college recruiting is just not true. NL has Harvard, Michigan, Michigan, G'town, Lehigh commits already from the 2020 team. DCE will have a similarly strong haul with it's 2021 teams. VLC repeatedly has had really good results for a number of years as has BW. Lots of different ways to make to D1 if that is your goal. Choose the club that fits for your kid best. If they have talent, coaches are going to find it with any of these teams.

Few cared about this when it happened a fewer care now. If you have a issue with Madlax it should be 30+ kids on a roster at 2024, replacing and entire team at 2023 with players from MD. (Yes the could have simply attended the tryout but a deal was worked with CB and ML) the fact that 2022 are leaving. The DMV teams 2020-2022 are combined? Younger competition from 2026 VLC are very strong team and Cav, Evergreen and other Loudoun parents who will not practice in MD, fewer kids in N.VA actually playing lacrosse all combine to dent the business model. They are no longer the top choice for all players at all ages. I know several kids who are top level players who choose not to play for this team in N.VA. The deadspin story is really not a factor for any of them.

Disagree on the affect of the story. The story made national and local news and Google's entire first page of results is from different news sites killing ML. The story broke in 2013 and 5 years later the amount of teams has been reduced and combined as parents choose to look at other programs. I think the popularity of Evergreen and Cavs is a direct result of the story. It may not be a factor for the kids but it is for the parents writing the check.

One of them is a great player, the other not so much. Problem is that in the next few years other boys are going to surpass them both as puberty sets in. None of his kids are going to be very big or tall, just look at the parents. Both are small. Kids need to at least be thick/muscular to play D1 lax and height is a major plus. This is true for D1 women players too. Unlikely his boys will be big enough.

It is really time to move on. The kid is in college now, doing well. Madlax is doing well. Cabell is doing well. People make mistakes. Maddux made a mistake and the person who provided the emails to the public made a mistake. It is really old news, and has no relevance anymore. Maddux has graduated hundreds of players since this event and he has a lot of loyalty among them. Many are friends with the kid in the emails, too. Get over it and move on.

On my post I stated that it was not an issue for several of the top players and the parents that I know of. This is true it was not a factor in the decision for these kids and parents. I cannot speak for all only the ones I know and they are top players who would have been top players on the Capital team but never attended a tryout. The players played for other teams for the other reasons I listed and the deadspin article or the owner were NOT a factor at all. The practice location and growth of other programs along with fewer players in the area is a much bigger factor. The players from five years ago are now in college. Most parents do not find five year old articles on deadspin. Location, cost, and roster size are larger issues.

Wrong. Madlax is not doing as well. CM is still a jerk as the pp claims to know of new instances of ungrateful quitter email. The person who provided the emails did not make a mistake by being silent or by not givng in to CM's attempted blackmail. It's not old news if it's still happening.

Why? Are you tired of defending yourself to other parents as to why you are in Madlax?
