https://deadspin.com/hey-ungrateful-quitter-emails-from-an-angry-lacrosse-660703941 Keep this alive...it is still happening from this program and it is viral
Few cared about this when it happened a fewer care now. If you have a issue with Madlax it should be 30+ kids on a roster at 2024, replacing and entire team at 2023 with players from MD. (Yes the could have simply attended the tryout but a deal was worked with CB and ML) the fact that 2022 are leaving. The DMV teams 2020-2022 are combined? Younger competition from 2026 VLC are very strong team and Cav, Evergreen and other Loudoun parents who will not practice in MD, fewer kids in N.VA actually playing lacrosse all combine to dent the business model. They are no longer the top choice for all players at all ages. I know several kids who are top level players who choose not to play for this team in N.VA. The deadspin story is really not a factor for any of them.
Disagree on the affect of the story. The story made national and local news and Google's entire first page of results is from different news sites killing ML. The story broke in 2013 and 5 years later the amount of teams has been reduced and combined as parents choose to look at other programs. I think the popularity of Evergreen and Cavs is a direct result of the story. It may not be a factor for the kids but it is for the parents writing the check. This is true it was not a factor in the decision for these kids and parents. I cannot speak for all only the ones I know and they are top players who would have been top players on the Capital team but never attended a tryout. The players played for other teams for the other reasons I listed and the deadspin article or the owner were NOT a factor at all. The practice location and growth of other programs along with fewer players in the area is a much bigger factor. The players from five years ago are now in college. Most parents do not find five year old articles on deadspin. Location, cost, and roster size are larger issues.
