Really.....too much time on your hands if you can do this. I am a long time resident of the DC and own 5 homes between DC and MD. Some of my cars have MD tags and other have DC. I would love for one of you parents to stop me dropping off my child so I can more than flick off giving you a piece of my mind followed by giving you my DC address to find me later, should you have questions and need further flicking off on. ,

You do realize that having cars registered in two jurisdictions is also illegal, right? You can only have primary residence in one state or territory at a time and must register cars where you have established your primary residence. This is the reason motor-voter laws work. In order to register a car, you must hold a valid license from that state or jurisdiction. If you hold more than one license, you could potentially vote in more than one state, committing voter fraud. These crimes are all linked. Tax fraud, license fraud, school residency fraud, voter fraud all stem from people not being truthful about where they legally reside.

You might not be committing school residency fraud, but you can get down off of your high horse because you are committing a crime.

FLAT OUT WRONG....plenty of folks have primary residence in DC, businesses in nearby states and the car can be registered in their business. I personally know plenty of families that have primary residence in DC and have homes in Florida for summer and cars are registered in both states in which they pay taxes.

I have a vacation home in Maine, we also have a car there with Maine plates. Are you saying that is illegal? DMV asked us where the car was going to be housed.

Cars housed in the District must be registered in the District. Walk the alleyways and you will see this is violated by many who park their cars on their driveways. And before you blast me, I am not talking about the MILITARY members. I am talking about fraudsters who dont want to pay the excise tax so they use their mom's address in Maryland to keep their plates.

Why do you care as long as they pay taxes.

Couldn't it be the nanny's or grandma's car?

Go stand at the metro stop in Landover tomorrow morning. See how many kids are taking metro into DC for school.

Yep, I work with a mom who lives in PG and whose 2 children go to KIPP and her youngest will start PK3 there in the fall. (Which I know is not a popular DCUM school but it does have a waitlist, so there likely are DC residents who would like to go there but can't.) She uses a family member's address.

Over at Watkins, I'm pretty sure that the parents with Maryland tags who have been dropping their kids off way up E street ever since the "report residency fraud" sign went up outside the school know they are doing something wrong.

"So what you're saying, Cindy, is that I shouldn't report anyone taking pictures of children outside a school, because they might just be upstanding citizens doing their resident duty?"

"That's right, Byron. Even if a few pedophiles fall through the cracks: how can that compare to the scourge of a child living with their aunt--"

"I'm sorry, Cindy, the correct term is 'Auntie.'"

"Oh?" (Long pause.) "Well in any case, what's important here are the children. Why won't anyone think of the children?"

"I completely agree. And who better than to look after their best interests than the unemployed mother with a cell phone camera?"

"Completely.. It's women like that who kept the Japanese and German spies at bay, during the War."

Except they are not in fact paying the tax
Excise Tax for Vehicle 3,499 lbs or less 6% of fair market value
Excise Tax for Vehicle 3,500 lbs - 4,999 lbs 7% of fair market value
Excise Tax for Vehicle 5,000 lbs or more 8% of fair market value
Excise Tax for Hybrid Vehicles 0%

All that is a small amount when you compare it to property tax and personal income. Don't even get me started on parking tickets......So because they dont pay say $2200 on car taxes completely deletes the $20-25k they pay yearly in personal and property tax. Come on stop whining choose your battles wisely.

Anonymous wrote:OK, which one of you weirdos decided to go up to one of the Capitol Ill schools to photograph license plates and kids walking into school today. That was super creepy and a messed up way of showing your displeasure with not getting a slot. While you are talking about your rights, what about the rights of the families who are simply trying to take their kids to school in peace?

OP - how do you know this is someone who didn't get a spot? Do you know the person who was doing this? Did you mention to school staff during drop-off?
Anonymous
NP. I applaud the people reporting suspected cheaters. "See something, say something." If these families have a legitimate reason for an OOS plate, the school will confirm it. If not, the school (hopefully) will act against them and require payment of tuition or remove the student. The system needs our help to work efficiently.

All the haters posting here have nothing to fear if their excuses are legitimate.

But none of that happens if people are too lazy/scared to report potential cheaters. It's sort of like what Jeff tells us here: He doesn't have time to police every post, so the DCUM community needs to report suspicious posts to flag them for his attention.

Keep doing your part to help DCPS/OSSE do its job effectively!

You are naïve... Cheaters are cheaters, I doubt this is the only area where they are committing fraud.

There are plenty of ok reasons for out-of-state tags, everyone gets that, but catching cheaters should be done. Go for it! Good luck!!

"Really, Cindy, I think it's these nontraditional families that are the real problem."

"Weren't we talking about residency cheaters, Byron? Did you know they are stealing tax dollars from our District, just by their very existence?"

"They are? How shocking! I have never heard that before!"

"Then you haven't been paying attention! And if brave citizens like you don't take a stand against three year olds in foster care, or with noncustodial parents with cars, who will?"

"Well, Cindy, I have a great idea!"

"We desperately, need ideas, Byron. There's only so much a mother with a cell phone camera can do."

"We should close the borders. Big a build wall--"

("Cut to commercial, Joe. The Trump teleprompter got mixed in again.")

Expected response from someone who is breaking the law and flaunting it anonymously. Feel truly sorry for your kid(s) to be learning such behaviors from the adult in their lives.
