| OK, which one of you weirdos decided to go up to one of the Capitol Ill schools to photograph license plates and kids walking into school today. That was super creepy and a messed up way of showing your displeasure with not getting a slot. While you are talking about your rights, what about the rights of the families who are simply trying to take their kids to school in peace? |
| This is such a stupid post. The system won't do anything with just a plate number. They require the name of the student as well, something only known by someone within the school community. Point the finger inward before you point it outward. |
What was stupid were the idiots out there recording children going to school, especially when they can't do anything about it. What was the point? To shame them? For what? No one is taking advantage of DC taxpayers except the politicians themselves. |
I agree that there is no point unless they have more information than a license plate number. But, it's idiotic to claim that an actual address cheater is not taking advantage of DC taxpayers. It's a crime and those guilty are criminals just like people who carjack or steal from people's homes. Crime is crime and theft is theft. |
| Poster of this thread - are you guilty? |
| There is always some jerk from Maryland who thinks its okay to cheat the system. Good for that parent! At least someone is doing something. |
| I don't have the time or inclination to photograph license plates (I agree that it is pointless without other information) but I am on the wait list at my Capitol Hill IB school (and on the wait list at pretty much every school that I could make work with my commute. A lottery is a lottery and I accept that I lost and have to pay a big daycare bill once again. I don't begrudge my neighbors' kids their spots at all. But, I would be royally pissed if I found out one of them knew that a kid lived OOB or in MD and didn't report it. Residency cheating is not a victimless crime when wait lists at Capitol Hill schools have gotten as long as they are now. The Hill preschool, Gan Shalom, Federal daycare centers, etc are full of Hill kids (and their tax-paying parents) on wait lists. |
| Public shaming may work. |

You can have all the documentation you want, sadly, nothing will happen.
I have taken photos of one family's MD license plates at a Deal feeder and at Deal. I have given the names of the students and the address used in the school's directory. It is well known to kids' friends that they live in MD but grandparents live in DC. Classic. This has gone on for 5 years. Yes, Deal Middle School and one of the feeder schools. DCPS has not done anything. And it's a really fancy/expensive car. I know it shouldn't but that annoys me. |
| I didn't think I needed another reason to dislike capitol hill. Thanks! |
What MD school are these people supposedly zoned for that his them sneaking into Deal? Lots of people have MD plates precisely because they don't want to go to Deal. |
| Really? Ward 9 aka PG County |
Did you report them to OSSE? http://dcforms.dc.gov/webform/osse-residency-fraud-prevention-form |
Or MoCo. See other thread. Deal does just as well as MOCO schools. Deal feeders too (and without 30 kids per class except a few at Janny but with two teachers). |
| Pathetic DC mothers are often pathetic. More news at 11, Cindy: Did you know the Metro is terrible, the Potomac is not a good water supply, real estate is absurdly expensive considering the level of disfunction and most of these women whining with three year olds will be in Fairfax or Loudon or Wheaton when their kids are ten? More at midnight, when we cover, "School Galas: Dysfunctional Social Events for Elitists? Or Community-Building Fundraisers?"; as well as, "Why does everyone on this board live in Shepherd Park, and if so, why are they so concerned about Capitol Hill?" |
