Maryland license plate vigilantes

Anonymous

Hey, it's great someone, ANYONE, is finally doing something, ANYTHING about this!

They don't do anything. My friend turned in a MD resident who is at LAMB, a year later...still there.

"You know, Byron. I'm not sure everyone on this board really lives in Shepherd Park. I bet a lot of them are secretly living in Maryland! The other day, I was driving down Eastern Avenue and I saw A LOT of Maryland plates. You know what that means."

"Were some of them driving expensive cars, Cindy?"

"Of course! I felt almost foolish, in my Tahoe. How can I ever keep up with all those people on the road with Maryland plates who might have schoolchildren that might illegally be attending a Capitol Hill school?"

"I don't know. But it's obviously a really pressing concern."

My friend's daughter goes to LAMB. The parents are divorced- full joint custody. Kids are legally in DC schools. Report away but it isn't illegal.

I have taken photos of one family's MD license plates at a Deal feeder and at Deal.
I have given the names of the students and the address used in the school's directory.
It is well known to kids' friends that they live in MD but grandparents live in DC. Classic.
This has gone on for 5 years. Yes, Deal Middle School and one of the feeder schools.

DCPS has not done anything.

And it's a really fancy/expensive car. I know it shouldn't but that annoys me.

Did you report them to OSSE? http://dcforms.dc.gov/webform/osse-residency-fraud-prevention-form

I did report them, not this year, but other years. I actually spoke to a person one time who took the info. I'll do it again using this site, it looks thorough.

What MD school are these people supposedly zoned for that his them sneaking into Deal? Lots of people have MD plates precisely because they don't want to go to Deal.

How'd you know the driver/parent that drops off is a male? I'm assuming you meant to write "he's".
Parent that does all the driving is generally the dad. Do you know them too?
Sports team involved here too...could potentially disqualify a whole Deal team-a team that wins a lot too.

I have an out of state license (not MD or VA) and send my kids to DC public schools. Given the nature of our job assignment here, we're not required to get DC plates at this time. Have fun photographing us!

And BAM! Someone FINALLY gets it. These aren't cheaters...these are families with joint custody. Go figure!

Nope, but not one who automatically ASSumes that people with OOS license plates are "cheaters.

I actually think there are just a few recent Shepherd Park posts that are skewing the numbers. Given the popularity of Murch, Brent/Jefferson posts (20+ pages), I think there are more that live in those places than Shepherd Park

Which school was this happening at this morning?

Why are you mad exactly? Is it because those people don't contribute to public schools through taxes? If so, then you must also be mad at those who don't pay DC taxes for other reasons, e.g. work for international organizations that are exempt, or whatever other reason...

Parents whose kids were frozen out of their inbounds school because some asshole families from Maryland are using Grandma's or Auntie's address might have a somewhat different viewpoint. The same is true of the OOB family who stole a PK spot by using a rental property address.

It's a fair assumption to make.
