Name Pascale for a girl

OP, better to ask on a site like Nameberry. I asked here about name choices we were considering too, and they got butchered.

I thought the boy's name was Pascal?

That's like saying that Paula seems masculine for a girl. Or Georgia. Or Antoinette.

NP here, but I disagree. Those names don't sound a thing like Pascale. The name lean masculine to my ear too, whereas, Anotoinette for instance sounds very feminine.

Pascal (boy), Pascale (girl).
Paul (boy), Paula (girl).
George (boy), Georgia (girl).
Antoine (boy), Antoinette (girl).

I don't know where the idea came from that all girl names must end in -a.

In the case of Pascal/Pascale adding the "e" doesn't change the pronunciation at all though, does it?

+1 Seder plate and all

You are both so confused

Oh, I'm so sorry. Do the words "paschal" and "pascal" not sound similar to you? Especially since this is Holy Week?

Of course it does. Final consonants are silent in French, so adding the e changes the final vowel and consonant sound.

+1 That was my first thought. That this was an Easter baby.

Aren't Pascale and Pascal pronounced that same?

The final l in Pascal is pronounced, even in French.

Paschal is PASS-kle. The names Pascal and Pascale are pahss-CAHL. (The programming language is pass-CAL.)

pahss-CAHL and pass-CAL sound the same to me. pahss-CAHL= Pass-Kale?

Both the boy and girl versions are the same pronunciation?

No - awful. She will be made fun of nonstop.
Unless you can nickname her something.
Patty?

Why would she be teased? There are kids with very international names in this area - Indian, Chinese, Russian, Mongolian names etc.

My kids have French first names to go with their French last name because I didn't want an Anglo first name with a French last name. One of them even has Pascal as a middle name - after Blaise....
