Andie McDowell's character (and her acting) is terrible.

Yes, she is TERRIBLE. She ruins Groundhog Day. I have never understood what she is doing in any movie.

You've got mail is so good.

I see that a couple of John Cusack movies have already been mentioned, but Serendipity is at the top of my list!! Maybe more of a romantic drama than a rom-com though.

I like the song.

+1 and to the PP whose hubby loves it, mine does too. and he isn't typically a fan of movies like these that i will watch over and over.

+1. I loved 4 weddings except for Andie McDowell. She was the worst part of that movie, and I can't figure out why she was cast.

She's terrible. Isn't she from a Hollywood family or something? I really don't care enough to look her up.

I normally love John Cusack, but I hated that movie. The premise was so dumb. And dumping your sweet, thoughtful fiancé for some chick you spent a few hours with years ago, again dumb. They had none of the chemistry/connection that Deply and Hawke had:

Much better movie.

Sleepless in Seatle
Bridget Jones Diary
High Fidelity

Like High Fidelity, but John Cusack's character is kind of an ass.

He's better in Grosse Pointe Blank.

Love GPB. Sleepless in Seattle is terrible.

I truly think the best "rom-coms" are movies like Bringing up Baby, Arsenic & Old Lace, or Desk Set

Totally agree. I watched The Philadelphia Story again recently and oh, it's so good. You can't go wrong with Cary Grant or Katherine Hepburn. I used to have the biggest crush on Jimmy Stewart (and I'm a child of the 1980s!).

Ahh, here are my people. Andie MacDowell was the horrible piece of driftwood in so many otherwise good movies of that period.

I'll watch pretty much any Hugh Grant romcom. He was made for them. Music and Lyrics isn't too bad, since you can sing along to the silly 80s "Pop Goes My Heart" theme song, and Drew Barrymore is better than Andie MacDowell and Julia Roberts.

I love grosse pointe blank - so freakin funny!

Also love serendipity even though I agree that the premise does suck

It is probably sad, but I actually really like princess diaries 2.

While You Were Sleeping is cute. And I really like My Best Friend's Wedding, mostly for Rupert Everett.

Pretty to look at but completely lightweight. She was the female version of Kevin Costner. Four Weddings and Bull Durham were good despite these clunky actors. Same for Julia Roberts in Mystic Pizza. But for all of them their acting talents run the gamut from A to B.

Do not speak ill of Kevin Costner in Bull Durham!

Notting Hill is horrible. So overrated.

Love Actually is even worse. Omg. That is a bad movie.
