I love that one too.

Seems like I'm in the minority, but I like it.

Really?

Do you even know what that photo is? Its the tourists visiting on a weekend for the antiques market.

+1 Londoners know that notting hill is known for its vibrant carnival which is an expression of a diverse culture--including Afro-Caribbean

I think the only movie where Hugh Grant was actually in with other black people was Love Actually. Can't think of one other than Pelican Brief that Julia Roberts was in. Not sure why you guys would think this movie would have a vibrant carnival expression of diverse culture.

Wasn't the tranny prostitute Hugh Grant got caught with black?

Never see. it but I'm here to defend rom coms! Love Actually, GPB, 10 Things I Hate About You, Beautiful Girls (so underrated), Four Weddings and a Funeral, In Her Shoes, The Wedding Singer, Say Anything, sigh I could go on forever!

I just watched Man Up. Now that was a good British rom-com.

I think I am incapable of judging Notting Hill fairly; it was my senior year and I have such pleasant memories associated with the movie.

Love Actually just blows.

Only You
French Kiss
Charade

Rom coms are always taken to task for being so unlikely - does anyone ever comment on how unlikely action films are? No. It's a movie.

In the modern era, Four Weddings and a Funeral has to be in the top 3. God, that movie was funny!

Me, too. The scene where Hugh Grant he takes Julia Roberts to dinner at his friends' house is really terrific, and the scene where he is showing his friends the Chagall painting JR has given him is great, too.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I like the structure of the movie, the writing, and the cast--other than the Julia Roberts character. I'm not sure if her character isn't written well, if she was miscast, or if it's just that HG and JR have zero chemistry.

My favorite rom-coms:

Shakespeare in Love
10 Things I Hate About You
Say Anything
The Apartment
The Philadelphia Story
Roxanne
500 Days of Summer
When Harry Met Sally
Barefoot in the Park
Pretty Woman
Annie Hall
High Fidelity
Silver Linings Playbook
Love Actually (although some parts of this movie really bug the crap out of me)

Andie McDowell's character (and her acting) is terrible.

Yes, but she has great clothes, so she's still worth watching! All the other characters are exceptionally wonderful.
