Will FCPS be closed Tuesday?

This is way more snow than I expected. I'm thinking at least a two hour delay tomorrow. I hope it's not closed but, better to err on the side of preparedness, OP.

Husband stays home, of course.

The options seem to be:

Take a vacation day
See if spouse can take a vacation day
See if a snow day camp is open and has space and you can afford it
See if a neighbor can watch them for the day

SAHM here.

I'm thinking if I took vacation days for all the snowdays we've had the past few weeks, I'd be fired!
My spouse is a surgeon so its difficult for him to take vacation days.
Where do you find snowday camps? Sounds like a good idea.
We're not close to our neighbors.

I used to be a working mom. DH is also a surgeon and he has never taken a snow day hit. Hospital is always open.

We had over 10 snow days and 10 two hour delays last year. I ended up quitting my job. The people who really make it work are ones who have FT nannies even with older children or near by family.

Between breaks and snow days, I am pretty sure my kids were off 20 days in December and January. That would have wiped out all if not most of my PTO.

So true about the full-time nanny or family near by being the only realistic way not to eat through all of your leave. I've read some remarks on this board about how the closures happen every year and eventually it's up to you to figure out how to make arrangements for days when schools are closed but work is open. Occasionally there is a snow-day camp like creative difference or what have you available, but somebody please tell me about the person they have on hand and available to cover for them just on snow days (when the roads are likely bad for that individual as well) and who can also make themselves available for a couple of hours on mornings of horrible roads, but are not otherwise the nanny or family. Honestly, who is that person and please send them my way!

Let us know where you are located and we can pass along some of the snow day camp locations.

This is very difficult situation when both parents are working outside the home. It's not easy to make arranagements with neighbors for repetitive snow day closure.

The problem is not that FCPS will be potentially closed tomorrow. We can understand that considering the condition of the roads. The major issue is the days and days of FCPS closures after the snow. They wait until all the side walks in the county are cleared, then it's the issue of their 1,400 or so buses that need to be dug out of the snow and on and on it goes.

Won't it all wash away with the rain and warm temps tonight?

I'm pretty sure FCPS will be closed for several days. They wait until all the sidewalks in the county are cleared and their 1400+ buses to be dug out of the snow.

2 kids in EM school. 1 in pre school. Both parents work and did not quit jobs. No nannies, no family near by. We made it work through alternating days off, SACC(open on 2 hour delays) snow day camps. Alternated one or two days with friends. And we still had two family vacations. Sucked it up and made it work. 10 snow days just would not be reason to quit our jobs even with other school breaks.

High schoolers in your neighborhood. Many in ours jump at the chance to make the money.

That's what they're saying. We got a lot of snow, on the upper end of the forecast, but the temperatures are supposed to warm from here on out. It's hard to imagine that all the snow will be washed away and gone by morning, tomorrow. I don't think FCPS will be closed, but there might be a delay to allow more time to warm up.

Aww, c'mon. It's not like the blizzard--there isn't that much snow that it won't all melt/wash away Tuesday. I'll bet they'll be out Tuesday, but back on Weds.
