Will FCPS be closed Tuesday?

My DW and I are both elementary teachers. I'm thInking I should be on standby to take in kids in snow days.

The options seem to be:

Take a vacation day
See if spouse can take a vacation day
See if a snow day camp is open and has space and you can afford it
See if a neighbor can watch them for the day

SAHM here.

I'm thinking if I took vacation days for all the snowdays we've had the past few weeks, I'd be fired!
My spouse is a surgeon so its difficult for him to take vacation days.
Where do you find snowday camps? Sounds like a good idea.
We're not close to our neighbors.

My husband and I work half-days, taking turns watching the kids. I would say that most employers understand when school is out, but I know it can be stressful when you are first returning to work. Since we have three elementary-aged kids, I don't feel comfortable asking a neighbor to trade days (To be fair, I don't really know my neighbors well enough to ask for babysitting. There aren't very many teens in our neighborhood, and I would not want to burden the younger families with my relatively large family.)

And therein lies the rub and why WOHM families get so much more stressed by snow days and get irate with the SAHMS who say stuff like "Sorry you can't just enjoy a fun snow day with your kids!!!" Not as fun when your actual job is suffering.

start by simply googling the area you live in + snow day camp. Most karate, Tae Kwon do places have them(they don't do martial arts during the camps but organized games, crafts, movies) dance places have them, places like little gym, church programs etc.

sure, let's go ahead and have another 4 day weekend....that should be great for my sanity.

Damn stupid ass winter.

My parents used to find a few high schoolers in the same school system who would be up for making some money on snow days. Doesn't seem like a bad idea.

our-kids.com has a winter break camp listing. They should start a snow day camp listing too.

Calm down everyone, school will be open tomorrow. It won't be freezing tonight or tomorrow.

Right. Do schools close for raining 50 degree days?
