It wasn't in San Jose. Mclean is proving a bit harder. |
They have been recruiting teachers since the summer. A lot will be transfers from other BASIS schools. So far, I don't think any official offers have been made. |
It's difficult. We talk up the facilities being better and the teaching staff being higher quality. More emphasis on college counselling and college prep. |
| Is Basis trying to recruit Asian students? |
| Can students drive to school? |
| Do the admissions team get a commission on how many students they bring in? |
| Is it true black students struggle at Basis? |
| Is it hard to work at Basis given that you have kids? |
| What's the admissions staff like in San Jose and Brooklyn? |
| How did the admissions staff quit? Did they all walk out one day? Is that the reason Chris had to come, is he doing it all himself like a one man show? |
|
| Is Chris interested in the schools at all or is he just a profit driven salesman? |
Very young. Most have no admissions experience. The Director of Enrollment in San Jose---now transferred to Fremont--- is a recent graduate of San Jose State. Graduated in 2012 I believe. |
I think it's hard to work at BASIS and be truly interested or invested in the schools. There's no effort to build community and excellence at current schools, it's all about expansion. We get used to thinking of the school as a product. Sometimes it's easy to forget that the families and students are individuals with their own unique hopes, dreams, strengths, and weaknesses. To us, they become numbers. It's sad, really. |
